Nargelblast my DD completes on her flat purchase on Friday. We are helping her with the deposit (live in London:eek:) and there was quite an amusing article in the Times a few months back about the Bank of Mum and Dad
It listed all the conditions to be met to qualify for BOMAD finance. Can't remember them all but a couple of them made me laugh
you will sit and listen with an air of attention when we give you advice
at no point during the relaying of said advice will you roll your eyes
you will take all your !!!! with you
That last one is a non negotiable for us!!! She has spent Christmas packing up. Lots of repeat orders to Amazon for cardboard boxes. I bought one of those packing tape dispenser guns and it has been a life saver. She now realises how much stuff she has. After we move her in it will take me weeks to take the rejects to the tip/charity shops.
But I will miss her:(It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Sadly, it's permanent damage; back in 1990 I was in a car crash, and basically my knee ended up trying to occupy the same part of the space-time continuum as the steering column. It was never treated due to my then-husband being too mean to fork out for a taxi to hospital (I'd been driving the works car which was written off; we didn't actually have a car of our own) and now arthritis is well and truly set into it, coupled with whatever damage was done to the actual structure of the knee.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

Having tried before and life and health grots took over so had to stop. Feeling great again;hubby has bought me a proper mat and I love doing all their workouts even though I am not that flexible yet but it will come0

Potato peelings if the skin has been scrubbed make nice crisps if sprayed with low cal oil and baked in the oven.
Shirley Goode used to suggest keeping veg peelings and making them into a soup and blending it.
I have realised that I have plenty of stuff and treated myself to a few pairs of nice pyjamas and dressing gown for Christmas in a sale so don't need to buy more things. Trying to restrict buying to essentials
like cleaning supplies , stain removers , groceries and a few things for my daughters now and again.
I want to make sure I am cooking more from scratch and eating more fruit and veg and getting more exercise, a bit at a time. Made a start by having porridge for breakfast and home made soup for lunch and defrosted home cooked chicken and veg to have later stuffed into a couple of small tortillas. I even started to eat some fruit from the bowl as a snack."This site is addictive!"

I'm on to this nargle. I haven't had bread since October and miss it dearly. You can imagine my delight at seeing a sourdough cob in the gluten free section and then the realisation that I would have to part with £3.50 for it. I'm not doing that. So I'll continue to do without but I will be trying to find a recipe that I can make myself at a fraction of that cost. My absolute dream would be to suss out how to make a gluten free sourdough cob... but if my grain free Yorkshire puddings are anything to go by, I'm not hopeful!0

Loving reading all the posts here.
For me simple living isn't all about being frugal either. I also want to read more, less tech, bed earlier and actually make more time for myself!
I'm cooking more and baking . I wnat to spend more time with people but also do less. Slow down. I feel like life is so rushed these days and it just gives me anxiety. I want to slow down and get outside more, enjoy hobbies like reading and crochet. Play more games with my kids. We've been teaching the older kids card games and been having such a giggle with them.
We are gluten free in our house. Never figured out bread.
Make a great cake though.
250g each of butter, sugar and doves farm gf Sr flour.
4 eggs.
4 tbsp of natural yoghurt. Splash of vanilla.
Tasted amazing every time0 -
Evening folks
Just sat down with my dinner after a 45 minute meal prepping session. All I will have to do in terms of cooking tomorrow is making a white sauce and assembling a potato-broccoli bake. Dinner on Thursday will be spinach quiche, the pastry is already in the fridge and the spinach defrosting, so I will just have to roll out the pastry and make the filling and put it into the oven alongside the bake. Feeling rather organised!
Speaking of oven... I used to store all my oven dishes in the oven itself, so whenever I wanted to bake something I had to move everything out first and then had it sitting around on the counter until it could go back in. Last week I finally made some space in a kitchen cabinet to put in all the dishes so the only things in the oven itself are now the baking tray and the cooling rack. I guess that means simplifying my life!
I decided to treat today as a Saturday as opposed to a Sunday and do some household stuff. So I did a top up for veg and dairy and did some cleaning before going for a nice long walk. Definitively reached 10000 steps today. And before I will go to bed I will have a nice bath with a cuppa and a good book. And then tomorrow work starts again...
For me, simple living also doesn't necessarely mean being frugal but it means having more time for the things I love and looking after myself. And often that has the nice side effect of saving money. There is a direct link between my groceries bill and the amount of unhealthy convenience food for example. So eating healthy also means reducint the groceries bill.... And not buying too many things means not spending money on them but also not spending time shopping.
elona, we were breakfast- and lunch twins today :-) I also felt like having porridge today and defrosted some soup for lunch.
Primrose, the thought of you running around your house to some Verdi made me smile :-) But then it is an excelent idea to combine excersise with listening to all the CDs and maybe also decluttering the ones you don't like (anymore)
Have a nice evening everyone - and remember the "earlier bed time" resolution :-) Looks like I am not the only one with it!Fashion on the Ration 2022: 5/66 coupons used: yarn for summer top 5 /
