Things to do so far-get rid of dvds, have a massive box of them I never ever watch...can I sell these anywhere or best just to donate?😁

Depending on the DVDs you could try the normal online selling places, eb ay, am azon or your local FB selling pages or try a site like music mag pie or maybe your local C e x if you have one - you can input the details online and they’ll show you how much they’d give you. Some might only be pennies but it’s better in your pocket than sitting around doing nothing.

For those who'd like to use leaves but don't want to use a teapot, you can get tea balls on little chains. They look cute but I've never used one myself - I like tea with my tea so a pot is great for me.
We have a couple of these:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stainless-Leaves-Infuser-Squeeze-Strainer/dp/B00IQ4VIU8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1514736228&sr=8-6&keywords=tea+ball
Mr LW used to have one in his drawer at work, together with a wee glass jar full of Earl Grey loose leaf tea, and a second one at home.
It gets used if he's having a cup of tea and I'm not. (I still get horrendous hot flushes, so often I prefer a glass of chilled tapwater). It works well, and you can put in as much or as little tea as you wish.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Loving all the tips. I campaign on the environment and we are doing a plastics campaign at the moment. We have been out in Camden along the lock and along the Thames in the last couple of months, cleaning up plastic. I feel a bit of a hypocrite, as I'm not as 'Green' as I should/could be, considering I talk to the public about their plastic habits, but I have been looking at how to drastically reduce my waste recently. I do always take reusable bags with me to the veg stalls and buy most veg loose - apart from carrots - I will try to change that. I batch cook 'loads'. When I freeze stuff, I put it into plastic containers that I have had for years, and will never replace, once they are finished with, to freeze and then take out the frozen bricks to recant - therein lies the problem, so I will try to maybe check out grease proof paper, that might work or would welcome any other suggestions. Useless trivia - a single use plastic bottle takes between 450 & 1000 years to degrade.

With regards to clothes, I mostly shop at charity shops. I only buy good quality stuff, I do consider it recycling, plus it gives to charity. I hate the blind consumerism. Many clothes are made and dyed in third world countries. Not only is it mostly slave labour, the dye affects lots of people who make these things, giving them skin cancers, etc, they are then washed into the waters that these communities use to drink from. I feel my charity shop clothes are 'Fashion with Compassion'.

Re decluttering, I have done so much, unbelievable as I've been busy with other things. I cleared under my stairs, not really that mammoth, just looked it, done my clothes drawers, just wardrobe, shoes n bags left. So far I would say I have gotten rid of about three quarters of my stuff. Very happy with that. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE. XX

I’d love to follow this post, been trying to make life a lot simpler for about 2 yrs, since a massive life change. (Gave up well paid job - v v v stressful and I was v ill, now have a lot less money, but a lot more peace of mind!)
Just my son (5) and I do something’s are more challenging than others!
Things to do so far-get rid of dvds, have a massive box of them I never ever watch...can I sell these anywhere or best just to donate?

Garden - we rent so limited amounts I can do here, have herbs and last year tomatoes and strawberries in pots...have cleared a small patch at the end so this year will do some more veg.

Clothes -Still have a few ‘work’ clothes which I don’t wear and will eBay.

I cook all our meals from scratch but not snacks etc, wil start that this year.

Sure there are a lot more things I can do, also trying to pay off a credit card so all savings will go to that!
Thanks for starting the thead, looking forward to new ideas and glad I’m not the only one...lots of my friends think I’m a bit mad😁

You could try Ziffit or music magpie or we buy books. You can download their apps which have a scanner.you just scan and they tell you what they will pay you for each dvd. Then parcel them up and they send you a free post label.

A very happy and much simpler new year to us all!
One life - your life - live it!
  • Happy New Year everyone!

As part of Simple Living, I am aiming to clean up my diet and lose some weight in the process. Cutting back on junk should be good for both my budget and my weight. Also reducing the amount of plastic packaging and crap that goes into landfill.

It's funny, I've never really bothered to care that much about the wasteful-ness of packaging. I was a well aware of it, but taking the 'bury your head in the sand' approach. Well now I am changing my ways. My first step is to start consciously buying fruit and veg with less packaging and don't use a plastic bag unless it's really needed.

    May I join please?
I really do need a different life for 2018, my husband left just before Xmas, and he was more than a bit of a hoarder, and my Daughter will be going to Uni in the summer (fingers crossed) so I need to get both me and the house into a comfortable simpler place
I have way too much of everything, apart from money, so I need to use up what I have , sell some of the clutter, and make some decisions about the future

Heres to a simpler 2018 in so many ways
