Will be taking the decorations down this week even though the family want to keep them up as long as possible. Pointed out that the don't actually take them down, I do and it takes ages to do it and put them back in the loft. Told them if they want them up longer then they can take them down. Had a lovely afternoon reading and watching tv before doing the ironing whilst doing a roast dinner.x:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.000

Happy New Year! Hope it will be a healthy one for all of you!
Just came home from my parents. Spent all evening there yesterday and today we met for a late lunch and played Ludo all afternoon. Have done that yesterday as well, Granny lost 5 in 5 games and is very dissapointed... She is used to winning, due to her cheating or shall we say creative game strategy?
Had a lay in this morning as it was very late when I finally fell asleep and then went for a lovely walk in the woods. Will now try and finish a pair of socks so that I can start a kids hat tomorrow. Friends son will turn one in a few days and will get a bear hat complete with ears and a bear face. Plus some wooden toy, he already has enough plastic stuff and don't need to get more from me.
I have just decluttered some cosmetics, I don't intend to colour my hair, so why should I keep all this colour? I loved to have red hair but hated all the fuss with colouring and actually really like my natural brown hair. So haircolour is gone as well as some other stuff.
I have just created myself a little habit tracker, on an A5 sheet so that it fits into my diary where I can tick boxes for each day I go to bed before 10.30, read 30 pages and write 200 words. Plus there is a list to write the numbers of steps each day and decluttered items. Will see if it is usefull to see things at one glance.
I will remove all the decoration besides the christmas tree as soon I'm off the computer. Tree will stay in till Friday or Saturday as I only put it up on the 23 and I want to enjoy it for a few days more.
I too have these tea egg thingies which I use when I only cook one cup of tea. Only have very few teabags, mostly fruit tea that I can't get lose. Am currently trying to use up heaps of Earl Gray, don't know why I thought I needed about 400 gramms of it...
LW, hope your knee is better soon!
Elmer, sorry to hear about your husband moving out. Hope you will be able to sort out your life and keep positive! Do look after yourself!

I was thinking today about some simple resolutions for this year which would be achievable to improve my fitness, be pleasurable and help to keep my brain activw. I then then realised the answer was staring me in the face in my own living room.
We have hundreds of classical CDs I haven t listened to in years, and some probably bought in Library CD or charity shop sales, I,ve never heard at all.
So every day I!m going to take one or more CDs out of the cupboard and listen to it, put the phone in my pocket so that the installed app on it counts the number of paces I,ve walked up and down the length of our lounge/Dining room while the CD is pLaying.
Then when that is finished I,m going to sit down and try to read the multi lingual notes provided at the the front each CD case if they’re provided in either French or Italian to see how much of my teenage language lessons I remember.
Well, we will see how long this particular resolution lasts!
We seem to have an awful lot of Bach so maybe my daily CD selection should be random from the shelves. if I get stuck alphabetically on Bach for two months, much as I like his music, I might soon start to go off the whole idea :rotfl:0 -
I feel so motivated reading this thread. Took the decorations down today. My sister said I was a Scrooge. She just doesn't get me
. Ah well.

I am off on Wednesday and Thursday but will spend most of those days sorting out stuff for our DS, who moves into his new flat on Saturday. Other jobs like taking down decorations and decluttering, tidying, washing etc can wait until Sunday. I want to spend as much time with DS before we help him move in (my baby leaving home at last!) and there will be plenty of time from next week onwards for a good sort out. The place will seem strange without our boy, but he is starting a good job on a decent salary and moving into a nice flat. He says he wants to come home every weekend - wonder how long that will last, once he has made friends in his new town?
Can’t wait to get down to decluttering all the Christmas stuff, we are slowly getting through all the leftovers. Lovely full moon tonight, lighting up our back garden. Loaf of bread in the bread maker due to finish just before I go to work tomorrow, so will wake to the smell of fresh bread baking. Pity I can’t eat too much of it, being a bit sensitive to wheat and gluten, but I can enjoy the smell. One life - your life - live it!0 -
Hi everyone
I think I could do with a simpler life after a busy Xmas and New Year or a good rest at least!
The recycling has been put out for tomorrow but the bin has to wait until next week. I will be doing some more decluttering starting in my wardrobe and getting rid of clothes that don't fit or suit me and then do the same with shoes. My pantry and freezer are rather full so I feel an inventory coming on and some sort of meal plan and shopping for only things I need.
I would like to have a go at making some tops for summer as I have some material and I think I will have a go at cs shopping for other stuff. I would like to watch less TV and read, knit and sew more and perhaps make a few bits for presents. My simpler life won't be all frugal it's also about trying to relearn some things like a more sensible bed time and enjoying the outside more, taking part in some enjoyable activities that don't include technology all the time or lots of money and talking to people, in other words I suppose I want to smell the roses more.
Right I've just noticed the time so I'm off to bed now, it's usually more like 1 or 2am, so this is a good start!

I bought the tea balls when they were selling them on Approved Foods, for 10p each. Youngest is a massive tea drinker and whilst I prefer my coffee, I do like a cup of loose leaf tea. If just one of us is having a cup, we use the balls but if both of us do, I have a tea pot with a built in strainer (or is it called an infuser) but it does the job and saves any leaves ending up in the cupThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. Thank you all for the warm wishes, I am very hopeful for 2018, as I'm in Scotland I have today off too, so the tree and decorations are coming down today,
I hope to do a little sort out as there were some that didn't go up, and I will decide what to do with them with my daughter later after I have picked her up from the Airport
Then steak pie for tea, a Scottish tradition for New Year and back to work for a lovely short week tomorrow.0 -
I love the idea of this thread - I've been trying to remove stress points from my life for a few years now. It's not always easy and I sure once I leave France where I'm currently living and return to the UK a whole lot more stress will arrive.
So I'm really looking forward to what you all think and while I know I'll be more of a lurker than anything else until I return, I'll contribute my 2 penneth worth if I think it's relevant.Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

I'm on to this nargle. I haven't had bread since October and miss it dearly. You can imagine my delight at seeing a sourdough cob in the gluten free section and then the realisation that I would have to part with £3.50 for it. I'm not doing that. So I'll continue to do without but I will be trying to find a recipe that I can make myself at a fraction of that cost. My absolute dream would be to suss out how to make a gluten free sourdough cob... but if my grain free Yorkshire puddings are anything to go by, I'm not hopeful!0
