I would recomend you go to Levi, the kidsland there is fantastic and the town has a lot more to offer for young families than Yllas does as far as facilities

as for a 2.5 year old out in the cold, you need to be prepaired and it can but a real pain taking them in and out of their gear all the time

I would suggest that if you can, wait until after christmas and new year and go in Jan or Feb, the prices will be great and the santa thing is still on, the days are longer and you are most assured of plenty of snow

we have just returned yesterday from Yllas and the snow was still plentiful, we got a great deal with Crystal for 700 quid for a family of 4

If you are willing to pay full price then wait as you may still get a deal, if you don't then you still have the option of paying full price, also, don't just look at the 'offers' pages on the crystal and inghams websites as they do not have all the offers, the deal we just got was not listed under their offers page but under the main lapland page
  • book the husky and reindeer trips through inghams, they are cheaper than when you get out there, there are the super and the mini safaries, I would go for the super as long as you don't have little children with you

that's an excellent price shop-to-drop, it's so exciting isn't it?

you must ensure that you are all prepared for the weather, it will ruin your hols if you get cold, inghams hire out suits, this is much cheaper than buying it all yourself.

congrats everyone, lapland here we all come
I've just bkd 4 nights in 2 bedroom Yllas log cabin, from Dec 17th. 2 adults & 3 kids going (ages 12,6 & 6) for £1640. (Bkd through Freedomdirect.co.uk & it's an Inghams package). Been checking a lot on forums & poe.tuesday, you seem to be 'the' authority on all things Lapland! I take it you'd advise I bk trips through Inghams before we go, rather than do it out there? What do you reckon my chances are of seeing the Northern lights, at that time of the year? Would the super-safari's be too much for 6yr old boy & girl? Can't wait myself now, let alone the kids!!

We went last year, And found slightly cheaper to book at tourist office near to K5 hotel.
Northern lights :( we stayed 7 nights last dec and 2 nights in a row we MISSED them :(
sure you will have fab time we did :)

ps... some advice if you book a skidoo even with first choice and Ingams reps and you crash you will be charged for damage, we were told this by another family who were charged £80 for a bit of cracked spoiler, she suffered bad arm injury too :(
I would love to be a Travel Agent :j

the K5 is in levi adn not yllas and you will find that the inghams trips are cheaper than local companies

I believe that on the 4 day trips Inghams will not let you book the super safaris (I have no idea why) but they will let you book the mini ones

I found the reindeer safari a bit slow and we did the super one so I would think that the mini as the children may get a bit bored

as for the super husky- they will take your youngest but put them between yourself and the eldest child as it can get really cold with the wind and speed etc, the eldest will be fine at the front, your OH will drive the huskies - the mini is in the same place as the super but it's just shorter

I would suggest that you pre-book them if you are planning on doing the mini - you could also ask inghams if you book the mini now could you up-grade to the super when you get there, that way you are at least ensured that you have the mini sorted out

I would also recommend you go on a snowmobile trip, this really is fab, my 7 year old ddin't like it on the snowmobile so he went into the pod - it's far cheaper to have one adult and one child on the snowmobile so have your OH with one of your youngest and put the other one in the pod, they can then swap around half way through the journey, you can then take your eldest - do teh family 25km trip with inghams - if you don't fancy a tour then you can hire snowmobiles from snow fun as they hire ones that take 3 people

as your children are under 7 you can get free lift passes and ki hire for them, not sure if you will have time to ski or if you ski already but it's free for them

you will love yllas - it's really beautiful - you just now need to make sure you are ready for it

there are still plenty of bargains to be had, neilsen ski war doing a week on the 6th dec from 129 per person and inghams have square deals, in particular is the catered chalet for 250 each (adults only though) and that's for all flights, accommodation and food etc

igluski is another place to look aswell as lastminute

there is loads of snow there too, it looks really magical

Why not? I'll be taking my 10 & 6 yr old girls + their auntie & her 6 yr old son! So we should be pretty easy to spot! Are you flying out from Manchester aswell? We'll be driving up from London, as all deals from here sold out. Gotta get everything bought & packed by next week, then hope I've not missed anything vital to survive -20 cold!!
