Am I being silly to be upset over this?

Could it be the products you were using? Especially if oil based then these could make the bath slippy. Maybe a change of product would alleviate the need for a bath mat purchase.I can offer no resistance, I can offer no respite

I aim for a peaceful life,
Wake me up when the fury is ended

1 - I am assuming you are a competent adult
2 - He is not your boss
3 - Stop playing the needy victim
You seem to have confidence issues, you don't need validation from your boyfriend for every little thing and then when he doesn't agree with you suddenly he's a monster who doesn't care about your safety over an ALMOST accident that didn't even happenThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Just get a mat. It's your mat. He doesn't have to use it.
Think carefully if he is domineering or undermining you in your relationship?
He's not your parent and you don't need permission!0 -
This reminds me of the time I wanted to get a cat, but my boyfriend didn't.
So we compromised and now we've got two cats.0 -
Slightly off-topic but I bought a bath mat for when my young nieces and nephews come round, and it wasn't so much the unhygienic aspect that put me off, it was the overpowering rubbery smell!
Mats are only unhygienic if they're left in the bath/shower to fester _pale_This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
They're not unhygienic. We've always had a bath/shower mat and have brought up 3 kids with them. All still very much alive and well! It's people who are unhygienic not bath mats :rotfl:.Pants0

I dont have a bath mat but if i did it would have to be bleached both sides periodically. I'm not keen on them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Agree 100%.
And it's not as though they are hard to clean. I put ours in the washing machine. It goes in when we're doing some towels or something similar and it has done it no harm.0 -
You shouldn't have to "ask", but discuss if it's a good move.
You want one, get one.
He doesn't, that doesn't stop you getting one.
When you've finished, simply roll it up and pop it in a bucket beside the bath to drain.....
Or, there are some smaller stickies you might investigate that go on the bottom of the bath to stop you falling.0 -
Whilst staying with my son & his family, I too slipped in the shower and actually broke my ankle! It happened because the shower floor was wet and slippery after one of the girls had used conditioner on their hair - and I hadn't checked it. Was I upset? Too right I was - I'd broken my bl**dy ankle and was therefore not able to do all that I'd hoped to do whilst on holiday! (not to mention the fact that as I'm over 70, it could have been incapacitated for longer). Was I upset with them for not providing a bath mat? Of course not! In fact I think they were more upset than I was - especially grand-daughter who had washed her hair that morning.
And now I just ensure that the floor of the shower is dry when I get in it - and if I think it might be slippy, I throw a towel in and stand on that - and pop it in the wash afterwards.
If your relationship is so fragile that a bath mat causes so much upset, then you need to look at that relationship seriously.0
