Have you tried vegan cake recipes? Or I have an eggs-free chocolate cake recipe which I can post on here - been a staple in this family for many years!
I hope you get some sleep soon - I'm about to get to bed so I hope I do too.
New recipes always welcome
Please if you can share
Youngest has just gone to sleep so going to have a cuppa and try and get a couple of hours myself. Been worrying about money and things so sleep is short off with that and youngest's sleeping.
But tomorrow I need to iron and sort the school things so I need to get some sleep hope you get some too

Shortbread is always a good egg free recipe to bake. Flapjacks are a favourite here, again egg free, but it depends whether DS1 has left any syrup...he tends to make sandwiches for himself with a syrup filling!
Hope the DLA comes through soon, along with a back payment for the weeks you've missed.

Thank you for popping in Jwil and TF. If I keep things on my phone I miss them/forget. I like being able to see it every time I go in the kitchen to remind me even if it's something 20 days away :rotfl:“Once you hit rock bottom, that's where you perfectly stand; That's your chance of restarting, but restarting the way.”0 -

Really hoping the PA hits early enough so I can nip to a shop for some juice and paracetamol.
Another quiet day planned here, we will do something crafty after lunch. Lunch is soup from the freezer for the smalls.
Going to try and find some surveys to do it's been really quiet!

I've just realised it's in 'old money' - I will try to find the original later and translate! For now:
Chocolate Cake:
Grease and line 2 sandwich tins. Into a bowl go:
6oz plain flour
6oz sugar
3 rounded tablespoons cocoa
1/4 level tsp bicarb
3/4 level tsp baking powder
1/4 level tsp salt
Into a jug, put
6 fluid oz milk
1/2 tsp vinegar
3 fluid oz oil (sunflower/corn/rapeseed - something that doesn't have much taste)
few drops vanilla essence
Whisk the wet ingredients together.
You will probably need to add a drop more milk to get the fluids to half a pint/about 300ml.
Add the whisked wet ingredients to the dry and beat together with a wooden spoon. The wooden spoon bit really helps. Mixture should be smooth and quite slack. Turn into tins and bake at 180C for about 25 minutes till centre of cake has firmed up and it is pulling away from the sides.
Fill with jam or buttercream.
The use of vinegar and bicarb, as you may know, doesn't taste of either - it's the chemical reaction that counts. If the smalls want to do a bit of science they can try mixing small amounts of the 2 separately - DS2 used to do this using an old-fashion film holder: he was only allowed to do it out of doors or in the bathroom as the fizz blows the top off the container! :rotfl:I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Happy New Year Wannabe . I hope 2019 is much better for you
If you need paracetamol check whether your pharmacy runs the "minor ailments scheme" . They can provide over the counter drugs to people who would normally receive free prescriptions without charge.
Also is it worth phoning to progress chase the DLA decision ? Explain that the loss of it is causing you and your child hardship and you had to access the food bank over Christmas. They might process it quicker if they understand the situation you are in. I feel really sure that you should get it reawarded along with the arrears, which would give you your emergency fund and something towards your holiday x0 -
Thank you busymee I have called this morning and still no update. I will keep chasing though!“Once you hit rock bottom, that's where you perfectly stand; That's your chance of restarting, but restarting the way.”0
