I found xxxxxxx to be careless, dishonest and fraudulent. If they damage your car in their accident repair centre they will never admit it
They are careless because they damaged my car. Dishonest because they didn't admit to it. And fraudulent because they bodged the repair they said they would do as a goodwill gesture
This is a long review but if you want to know what sort of people you will be dealing with if you go to xxxxxxx - then I suggest you read it. I've gone into this much detail because the MD has already accused me of being untruthful - but has not accused me of libel or asked me to alter or remove it
I took the car in with a 3mm key chip to drivers door sill (Feb 2017). They quoted me £240. They did a good repair job but when I was looking around the car in the showroom I noticed white powder around the passenger headlight washer cover on the front bumper over an area of 3 or 4 inches. When I pointed it out to them no one claimed to know anything about it. When they removed the powder there were scratches underneath
They agreed to fix the scratches but three days later I noticed a massive leak from the engine compartment when using the windscreen washer. Skoda subsequently informed me that the headlight washer valve had been ruptured due to impact damage. The headlight had also been pushed out of alignment. Most people would see a link between them inflicting damage on the front bumper near the headlight washer cover and a ruptured washer valve - but not xxxxxxx. The MD (xxxxxx xxxxx) insinuated that the damaged valve was a preexisting fault
They kept saying that no impact had occurred on their premises but they could not adequately explain what had caused the powder and scratches. They obviously can't be bothered to install or check CCTV. Their best offer was that a jet wash hose or dirty overalls had rubbed against the bumper - lol
They repainted the bumper, replaced the washer valve - and then attempted to fix a washer cover alignment issue - the latter only after threats to take them to trading standards
After taking the car back a few times - the headlight washer cover was still not aligned. The MD said he was happy with it though and that it was 'within manufacturer tolerance', so that must be OK - (but then again it's not his car). Their website says 'Only perfect will' do but 'within manufacture tolerance' is the phrase the MD uses if you're not happy with their 'workmanship'
I subsequently took the car to another body repair centre to investigate why the washer cover wasn't properly aligned. They took the bumper off and discovered the washer valve had been glued into place with black resin because the bracket it attaches to had been broken off (see picture below). A bit of the headlight assembly had also been shorn off. They quoted me around £2000 to replace the bumper, replace and realign the headlight, remove overspray to fog light and other bits and bobs
I showed the photographs of the bodge to the manager at xxxxxxx and he at least agreed to cover the costs but if he hadn't I'd have taken them to court anyway
All in all a terrible experience. You may be paying more here but it doesn't seem higher cost equates to any greater degree of honesty than a back street repairer
The MD later went on the Money Saving Expert website forums to respond to my comments about his company and defend his employees. He also said he was considering legal redress - so he must be ok with how his employees behaved
I find the degree of dishonesty of such people hard to comprehend. It is almost sociopathic. I could not behave as they behaved and sleep at night. And for them to accuse me of being too much of a perfectionist after such a bodge is also pretty despicable. I can't understand how they could have such disregard for their reputation. The guarantee on their website which says:
"Our promise to you; that we will carry out the highest quality of workmanship"
is a lie. If they can bodge something to save money or avoid admitting causing damage - they will. I've always wondered when dishonest people get caught out - do they ever regret acting dishonestly - or do they just regret getting caught?
I probably wouldn't be as bothered with them bashing and bodging my car if I hadn't paid so much - but they are one of the most expensive repairers around. For £240 for a 3mm chip is it unreasonable to expect a slightly higher level of care and honesty? If they had done the same to the MD's car I've no doubt he would have sacked them. The MD has either lost control of his workforce or colludes in their deception
I got all the repairs done by Chartwell in Derby and they did a great job. In my experience they are a much more professional repair centre

If the car has now been repaired to a good standard, I honestly think it's time you let it go.0 -
Far too long. Most potential readers will skip it.
Also, this dispute was the subject of a long and boring thread on this forum recently, so I doubt if many people here will want to help.0 -
OP - hasn't all this been done to death already
