if you take your car to a reputable body repair centre like shorade in cannock - and they damage it - dont actually admit it - but begrudgingly agree to fix it - but bodge the repair by glueing things that should be bolted -

would the manager have told the staff to do that or would the employees bodge it on their own initiative?

    Yes. Or maybe, no.

How on earth is anyone going to be able to answer that, unless they are the manager or the staff?

How do you know it should be bolted? Modern cars are almost entirely held together by glue and the odd spot weld.

the other side has a bracket that is missing from the near side
  • Who knows who would have authorised the bodge but I can quite believe it. They didn't do a great job on my van and it had to go back again which given the cost of repair was most disappointing.

Bodged work is usually a result of unrealistic targets put down by the management, it's a sign of a toxic work environment where the staff just don't feel valued, don't feel part of the company and they only care about getting paid. In the case of a repair shop I can imagine that being very unpleasant to work with as every repair will have different challenges that add time to the job, challenges which won't be taken into account and which people in an office will just think are "excuses".

Once you've been dragged into a "meeting" unfairly to discuss "poor performance", despite working your fingers to the bone, then you tend to revert to doing to bare minimum you have to do.

BUT that said it's really the fault of both management and staff, professional integrity is down to the individual and i've left jobs because of pressure that would cause me to have to do poor work.

Your life must be hell, Strider. Persecuted by the police, the DVLA, HMRC, local government, insurance companies and now your employers. Is there a common factor in all of this?

    Huh?

Employment wise, the technical professions ARE persecuted in this country.
