No-one looks closely, unless they are seriously in need of some theraputic help. How lovely that your DS's friends said that, and that he passed it on. Good on you for creating such a lovely space in which to live - usually people take it for granted, so it's incredibly heartening to hear it recognised.Ironing completed
Off soon to the Tapathon record attempt in aid of CIN.
How did it go, Dancemum? Back in the early 1970s we used to have a Guiness Book of Record attempt during the Sidmouth Folk Festival for the longest conga line in the world, pretty much every year, on the Esplanade. Your mention of a Tapathn bought that right back, and I hadn't thought it of it years. Lovely memory, thank you.
(((Hugs))) Lamewolf - at least you got a clean kitchen and bathroom out of it, whatever triggered the rage.
Had the third and final crochet session yesterday, learning how to make hats and flowers. Absolutely brilliant. Discovered I've been making a fairly basic error easily correctable in future, found out how to even up my uneven blanket edges and started a hat I will wear, as well as coming away with a primrose and a daisy for it handmde by moi. Thoroughly nice woman who taught it, couldn't have been more fun and I have a very special Flylady's Christmas present to thank for it all. Lovely.
Today I will tidy and crochet. That's it.Better is good enough.0 -
Interesting conversation this morning; for reasons unknown, our friend C who died 10 years ago was in Mr LW's mind - I managed to turn the conversation to how C's wife was struggling with her sense of self-worth (I saw a book in her kitchen which is aimed at women in that situation and recognised it as I'd read it myself) and I "just happened" to mention that it was a shame that C had been completely oblivious to the fact that he was contributing her depressed by his behaviour. Mr LW agreed with me - and I think it may have struck a chord with him, as he's been all sweetness and light since.
He's just announced he's popping to @ldi for some wine - so I've given him a small list of groceries to get (hope he gets the right stuff!!!!) and he seemed happy to do this. Progress?? I hope so.
He's also volunteered to move the furniture so that I can do a "proper" round with the Dys0n before Suzie's next visit. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

It's something I started doing a couple of years ago when things were so bad in some areas that I simply couldn't face having to tackle them as one job. By whittling down the chaos very gradually it becomes possible to then roll up my sleeves and get stuck in. The 'dealing with only three things at a time' can, in some areas of this house, go on for weeks before it makes a serious dent in the muddle.
I'm still, four years in, dealing with my parents lifetime of collected gibble. However, there is real progress now, and I'm able to get rid of stuff much more easily these days - my mother's dressing table mirror went to the saleroom last week and will go in an auction in January. It's hard letting go of things and I'm not going to rush it but all the carp is long gone. Being realistic I reckon by the end of next year I'll be at the point where I can say it's pretty much done.
And on Friday I managed to get rid of a stack of paperwork two and half inches high - that was one file!Better is good enough.0 -
Hi flyfriends x
DGS2 has been decluttered home. I have tidied up, flung out 4 bags of rubbish went to the supermarket, dinner is in the oven and I'm now tempted to go for a snooze for an hour. I've still the work and school stuff to iron so really should do that. DD has just informed me it's a school holiday tomorrow good job DS2 is staying overnight tonight otherwise I'd have to ask someone to look after her and I hate asking anyone last minute.
Love and hugs to allI'm not a muggle...I'm just magically challenged0 -
Valli from memory I dew round a large circle a tray I think and after adding ice round the edge I ran a thin elastic round using zigzag stitch about 4/5 inches in. Does that make sense.
Lw glad things are getting back to normal
Dancemum hope the tapathon goes well.SPC~12 ot 124

Mob caps, Valli? As in chirpy Victorian girls?
Cut a circle of cotton large enough that when plonked on child's head, it flops down as far as covering their ears. Attach elastic in a circle from where their ears meet their head. Draw together.
Job done.
Himself took a brief phone call about an hour ago.

That's how we made hats too Mrs MP.
Well.. my 'decluttering' of the house has resulted in emptying the freaking loft... I don't even know how that happened.. I did refrain from binning CF's uni work and his briefcase of photographs and other stuff though.. because I am so horrible!
I now have 25 boxes to sort through, and have binned 12 empty boxes and got some bits for DS1 and loads of pics they might like to see. We need a tip run to clear the front garden again now lol. I have located the small case of tiny baby stuff I KNEW was up there and had to buy new for the 4 smalls because everyone was too blind to see it!.. we found loads of toys which have been passed down to sort or fling.. and christmas stuff to sort.. and a toy story Bo Peep doll mint in the box valued at... £250!!!!!!!!!!... and I found 7p.. and the irony of.. a left-handed guitar!!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

lol you make it sound so easy...
I'd suggest a trial run on a ValliKid who doesn't run away quickly enough/can be bribed or threatened to stay still long enough. Use a tape measure or piece of string to draped over the head to reach the ears, which will give you the diameter of circle needed.*
If it works, I'd suggest putting your phone on silent so any shutter sounds are not detected as you try the finished article on their head
* obviously this gives the diameter of circle needed for the ValliKid. But the same method can be used for small squeaky MissValli'sKids once you've got an idea of the technique.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
