Has anyone had a PIP paper based assessment?

I honestly think that you'll need more evidence for a paper based decision than a letter from your GP. There's so many people that have sent in huge amounts of evidence, yet still had to have an assessment. They very often don't contact any medical professional, if they do then it's rare. If you're sent an appointment for an assessment then i do advice you attend. If you don't then your file will be returned to DWP and you will most likely be refused PIP.Thank you all for your replies.
My GP sent a letter about my conditions and why a face to face assessment would be detrimental to my conditions and how it would effect me, which was pretty good. I also on my application explained to the extent all of my conditions have on my daily living.
I need assistance showering and this I can't do daily, my daughter washes my hair every evening if I can. I haven't left the house in weeks but when I do I can only manage a short drive, I haven't been out, out in a long time. I can't cook for my family so my husband as to prepare all the meals and store them in the fridge for the next few days. He also does all the washing, cleaning, taking children to their appointments etc... This is how bad things get when I crash. It's soul destroying.
I am worried sick I won't be successful but my GP says she can't see why I wouldn't be as I really do fit all the criteria. The PTSD and anxiety is very limiting on my life, the health issues on top just make everything 10 times worse.
If they need more evidence to do the paper based assessment will they contact me, not just strike my claim off as a no without asking? My GP in her letter did offer futher information if they needed to contact her.
Capita have my claim back from the DWP. Does anyone know how long it's likely to take if they do agree to do paper based? It was Capita who suggested I requested paper based when I spoke to them. I know people have said once Capita had their case, did an assessment they had a decision within a few weeks. I applied early July.
Thank you again for replying to me.

Can you do a home assessment and have someone with you? I realise you have difficulties but you have to realise also then it's rare to have that paper based decision. Good luck.0 -
Thank you Poppy,
Sadly I can't, I have severe social phobia since I was attacked and I am pretty much bed ridden at the moment, that is why my GP said it would be detrimental to my health to expect me to do an assessment even in my home.
Even with someone next to me I'd be in a complete panic attack.
If I am refused, so be it, there is no way I can force myself. It may sound silly but I know I can't.
Thank you again.

It would have been better if you had sent in the extra evidence rather than wait for them to contact you or anyone else. The onus is on the claimant to make sure they send in all evidence. You don't sound silly because i know exactly what you mean.
My daughter has severe social anxiety, a learning disability and ASD. She's 16 and has never ever been out alone in her life. She has one 2 one support in college the whole time she's there. I sent in over 50 pages of evidence from college, CAMHS and the learning disability team, i was hoping for a paper based decision too but sadly it didn't happen she had a home assessment which was given without the need for a letter from her GP. This is just an example of how difficult it is to have that paper based decision.0 -
My disabled son got both PIP and ESA support group with paper based assessments. Care plan was included in application.0

Thank you both so much for replying.
I will keep my fingers crossed but I'm not hopeful.

Hi mum received her appointment for assessment on Saturday it's been on only 12 days since them receiving her claim Carnt believe how it's happened so quick her appointment is to see a Sano IPhysiotherapy at a building at the end of this month ..my question is will her/ him assess mum on just the mobility or both mental health I'm just thinking how a physiotherapist could assess a person with mental health ..it also says she can ask for a home visit to be considered.0

A physio assessed a very close relative very recently & the award was for enhanced rate for both care & mobility rates of PIP! :T Relative does have some physical disabilities as well as mental & had been on high rate care, low mobility DLA. But she actually had the mindset that if she just ended up with standard care for PIP she would just accept that & not appeal the decision because of the stress involved. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
She'll be assessed on all of her conditions. For a home assessment she will need to ask her GP for a letter stating the reasons why this is needed. Physios are trained to assess a patient holistically, they don't just work on bad backs. They'll also have experience in assessing functional and occupational ability, which is what ESA and PIP awards are based upon.
I'd expect a physio to have a better insight into how a condition affects your ability to meet the descriptors than most other clinicians. A GP (for instance) can diagnose and prescribe, but they rarely have insight into how medical conditions affect you in making a meal or getting dressed.0 -
I bet I ain't the first ..thankyou0
