Come on fairyface, you have to admit that unrolling toilet paper in the supermarket toilets and taking it home is a bit OTT.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hi Fairyface, think this is a great idea for a thread and we could probably all learn something but .....
I would be horrified if I thought anyone was coming into my house and taking a wad of loo roll home with them and I certainly wouldn't do it at anyone's house either.
Apart from it being wrong, you have no idea how hard up they might be - maybe that loo roll has to last them until they're next paid!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

My aunt uses 1 tea bag to make multiple cups of tea. If you can't face doing that, invest in a teapot (come to think of it, I really should start doing that myself).
I do wash my dish clothes. In fact, I might start knitting some as there are loads of patterns on line. I have a big bag of DS old, tatty baby clothes and I plan on using them for cleaning rags.
I'm going to charge my phone at work tomorrow instead of at home.
I re-use foil (proving it isn't in too bad a state).
Here's one my aunt did. At my Dads wake, there was a buffet and my aunt proceeded to get some plastic containers out of her bag and stocked up. It wasn't just one. It was 5!!!!
Speaking of plastic containers, I reuse them - ice-cream, margarine tubs etc.
I cut the toothpaste tubes in half to scrape out the last remaining bits. Ditto for shampoo too.0 -
Hi fairyface,

Put a portion from dinner aside and freeze for another dinner (before serving up, so you're not tempted to have more!)

I use teabags to make 2 cups. Drink my tea weak and black so it does me and OH (who drinks normal tea).
I have also cut open tubes to scrape more out - surprising how much moisturiser etc is in there, but it does dry out quite quickly.
Freeze any leftovers or eat for lunch next day. Check fridge regularly and use up anything looking sad - I must get back to chopping cooking and freezing carrots....working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I don't think I would dare take some toilet roll from my friends house...Actually I think if I was that desperate I would ask to borrow a roll... I'm sure they wouldn't see me go without.
I wash my dishcloths too...Cannot remember the last time I bought new ones.
I get 2 cups of tea from 1 tea bag
water my Milk down
Cut my dishwasher tablets in half
Reuse margarine tubs

If you've a bottle of wine, take an ice cube tray and freeze a couple of "blocks" (honestly, you won't miss a tiny bit;)) - these can then go in casseroles etc and add a bit of yummy flavourGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Hi I know there have been threads similar to this but now as we are all worse off, I think we should start a new thread and share our tips.
I am new to this, and you'll probably say I do that anyway, but please can we share some tips.
My 2 tips what I did today were decide to stop throwing dishcloths away, wash with the towels.
When out in the supermarket,or at someones house, use the loo, and take some loo roll home in your pocket.
I feel a real scrooge, we are poor and my son wants to go to university, so I am going to save , save , save.
So please share:j
I'm sure i saw a thread on the debt free board where someone said they used to pinch toilet rolls from work lol.
Anyway, it's a lovely idea for a thread. Keep your chin up fairyface and keep going with your saving, times are so hard for families now0 -
Don't steal, use free news papers for loo roll if you're really that desperate. Or make reusable loo paper (like nappies) for number ones, unless you're feeling daring.
Definitely reuse tea bags. I always do this because I LOVE pricey green tea, use it as normal the first time and the second time leave it in the whole time you're drinking the tea. If you find it makes the tea too strong then you can probably get three cups out of it.
Make up that comes in jars/pots (dazzle dust, loose powder etc) the jars make for great storage and for homemade creams. I never buy body moisturisers from the shops, especially not cocoa butter lotions because it's so much cheaper to use raw natural products or make your own lotions.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0
