I soak dried pasta in cold water a few hours before I cook it. I then drain it-it will have absorbed a lot of water and will cook quicker.I then bring water to a bubbling boil, put in the pasta, when it goes back to bubbling again I switch the cooker off,put the lid on and the pasta will cook in about 6mins( penne)We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.Oscar Wilde xxx:A0 -
Kids school pack lunches are one thing that cost me a fortune.
Use a drinks bottle instead of buying cartons - use diluted fruit juice or water if your little ones will let you get away with it. Juice from a big carton costs less ml for ml than the individual ones. Bottles with sports tops can also be re-used for this purpose instead of buying a bottle.
We use HM popcorn (minus any nasties like salt) instead of buying packets of crisps
Use value sized packs of sandwich meat and a whole loaf and freeze the sandwiches rather than making fresh every morning and throwing half the pack of meat away by the end of the week.
Buy mini containers to put things like raisins/apricots/nuts and seeds in - buying individually packed ones is about a 800% markup!0 -
Short of space in the fridge, need to put in a few odds and sods ie strawberries, sweets etc etc.
Cut the bottom off a 1 litre plastic drinks bottle (we seem to have a few extra tonic bottles at the minute) and use it like a small dish.
Just made one and put a few cherries in there and added the 'dish' to the grapes one I made earlier.0 -
Pans that need to be soaked, buy some cheap washing powder and put a spoonfull in the pan with water and when you go back the food will just lift off. This can be applied to almost anything that needs cleaning.
Fed up with bottles everywhere in the bathroom, buy a wall dispenser, fill up and throw the bottles away.0 -
