(I now own both a pressure cooker and a Remoska..saved a fortune on fuel bills.)
Im sure there are loads more things, too tired to think of them all just now.:)
I've never heard of a remoska, until I read your post, have now googled it and it sounds ideal for me - live alone and hate heating a whole oven for one meal.
My Mum was just asking today what to buy me for Christmas, she was met buy the usual answer of "Don't know, haven't thoght about it". This will be ideal. :T
She knows it's ok to buy me 'housey' stuff, seeing as I actually ask for it (although she can't understand it lol), but my Dad knows he'd be facing a divorce, if not worse, if he bought my Mum something for the house. :rotfl:0 -

Didn't know there was such a thing as left over wine to freeze in ice cubes!:rotfl:But if I ever have any it's a very useful idea.
Didn't know you could cook potato peelings and they'd be so yummy - had some cooling in the tray the other day when our best friend came over for dinner and when he asked what they were I was sure he'd think I had finally lost the plot irretrievably but no he declared them yummy and he and my OH polished off most of the tray before I put dinner out!
There must be loads more but like cooking-mama I'm tired and my bed is calling.
Ye what?
I actually bought a bag of potatos last week. I bought those rooster ones, wanted to make leek & potato soup, baked tatties etc, but chucked the peelings (not from the baked potatos, obviously) down the waste disposal unit.
You mean I could've used the skins? :mad:0 -

Cleaning a stained vacuum flask with warm water and eggshells, Brill!
Gotta give it some shake and shimmy, though, and pretend it's a cocktail shaker
Soda crystals wouldn't shift the stains but eggshells did the trick.
Thanks to whoever posted that one :A0 -

I made a leek and potato soup on monday...from the peelings left over on sunday and the leek tops that I also had left over from leeks on sunday. If you are going to blend it to a smooth soup not a broth its absolutely perfect to use peelings.0 -
Sewing blanket into curtains is a big one for me.
Loads of other stuff too like cleaning with white vinegar and water, putting vinegar in my washing machine to keep my towels soft and my machine smelling nice.
Filling my oven up when I use, instead of heating the whole thing up just for 1 pie! (can't believe now that I actually did things like that!)
Leaving oven door open after finished cooking to warm kitchen.
Goodness there are so many my brain has gone into brain-missing mode. There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0 -
Potato water: After boiling your tatties, you can use the water for your houseplants, or pouring over dry dog food (I don't have a dog, or boil potatos much, but my Mum & Dad do/have both, passed that info on). I've been chucking mine down the sink.
There are a couple more things you can do with potato water. ;-)
Save it and use it as the water in a bread maker recipe.
Use it as the water when making a soup or stock.
Same for the water from boiling pasta !
And... I deliberately boil rice in lots of water rather than trying to get the ratio of water to rice exactly right - (drain it quickly when done and tip it back from the sieve into the warm pan for a couple of minutes to dry off any excess) - and use the saved water in the same way as potato or pasta water.

Can I ask why?
Is it the benefit from not wasting water or heat? What is the advantage of using starchy water for things? And for what sort of things, (apart from the breadmaker, as mentioned)?
I make use of use veg water, but rarely "starchy" water.0 -
Until i heard some of you ladys talking about it, i didn't know what a rabbit was.
I thought it was a fluffy thing with big ears that ran around fields.
God i've led a sheltered life.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I would say that the great ideas from all quarters on this site are worth their weight in gold .I try to promote it to everyone I know as a great way to not only save cash but the tips on here are too inumerable to mention .I know that if I get stuck for a solution to almost anything I only have to post on here and within half an hour I have at least half a dozen solutions to virtually any household problem . Plus of course the banter and great support you get from your 'virtual friends' online .Amongst other things I have osteo-arthritis, and some nights I wake and cannot sleep owing to joint pain.I can almost guarantee you can find someone on here who, like me is a bit of a night owl and half an hours chat and I go off back to my bed feeling a lot brighter.Sometimes its probably the action of getting up and going through to my computer room and just physically moving my joints that help, but a chat also helps.Worse time is when the site is shut down for renovations or upgrades then you know you really are really on your own0
