Being a bit of a green queen I don't like to throw anything away that I can't reuse or recycle. I've discovered that empty Pringles tubes make FAB stiffeners for knee-length boots, they're just the right size and it's SO much cheaper than buying them.

    :D

On the subject of Pringles tubes - the lids make great petfood tin covers - lids could also be used to cover half used tins of beans/ fruit etc keeping them fresh in the fridge until used

With my H&S hat on - my son who is a chef told me always to decant food from tins into a plastic container with a sealable lid as the inside of the tin can begin to decompose when exposed to air even in a fridge.

Nail varnish remover is great for clearing up gloss drips (tried it on creramic floor tiles)

It works well on black scuff marks on white shoes too. A hark back to my misspent youth in the 80's ;)

He's just repeating drivel he's heard from other people who repeat drivel. No offence intended, but.......

    1. The food in the can will decompose a LOT faster than the can.

    2. If a tin can decomposes from the inside when exposed to air, what happens when the outside is exposed to air?

    3. What about tin that isn't made into cans and doesn't have an inside and an outside, which way does that decompose?

It's just a rumours started by the manufacturers to get us to throw food out and buy more. Just like "Eat within 2 days of opening" on the labels. They know it will still be edible after 5 days, but they want you to bin it and buy more.

If you don't believe me, next time you open a tin can keep it and see how long it takes to decompose.

Have to just say i think we know what exlibris means - food should be decanted from a can into another container as once it is opened and oxygen enters the container then there is a *possibility* that the the food could spoil.
I have to say that it is not "repeating drivel" and I am in no way a slave to use by / best before dates!!!!
  • mine would be (that aren't listed above):
1, use olive oil as a cleanser (i use extra virgin) £1.18 for 500ml, then a cheap toner and moisturise, my skin looks great and isn't greasy, you will be amazed at how much is on the cotton wool i was quite disgusted with my dirtyness!
2, hot chocolate tins and green tea pots are washed out and then painted with a matchpot (bought in a B&q sale) these make great tins for change or hair pins or anything really and they look really nice.
3, remove the buttons from anything that you make rags from, they always come in handy,
4, only buy clothes from shops that fit you well, a very cheap top will look stunning if it fits, and buy classic shapes not fads, my summer wardrobe hasn't had any additions yet this year,
5, always cut the top off of tubes there is always loads left,
6, get mobile contracts through somewhere like dial a phone and get the cash back, and don't forget to claim the cash back, my mobile effectively costs £7.33 a month for 400 mins and 500 texts!
7, reuse envelopes they send you to pay your credit card just glue a bit of paper over the top,
I'm sure i'll think of others but run out of time!
  • Ok so we all get good ideas, but how about a thread where we post any ideas which we see which are the dogs ........I would like to nominate Charlysez with this amazing idea:
