In the winter I keep the curtains closed over the big wide patio doors (daylight comes in through the roof veluxes) until the sun comes out. That's free heat with all that glass. Then later when the sun goes I close the curtains again. Free heat!

  • My tip is to ......

Spend less time on the Old Style forum and more time cooking and cleaning in the real world.
Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have. :)

Get a large freezer from Freecycle, and every so often freeze bedding and whatever. Costs about 10pence a go.
No need then for a boil wash, everything can be done at 30 degrees or less.
Come to think of it, can leave them on the line this time of year.
Sorry to sound thick, but why freeze bedding? is it some whitening or cleaning aid?
    thanks

Kills dust mites ;) that or the really hot wash. Better for allergy sufferers. Just wish I had room for a second freezer - but then it would be full of HM soup probabably ;)

Heard about it, Bundance from a TV documentary on the Royal Household cleaning system. Apparently they freeze all the fabrics, curtains drapes, and stuffed animals etc in a large freezer trailer hired for the purpose, mainly for moths moth eggs in precious carpets etc.

    Hi guys!hello.gif
I hope everyone is well. I thought I'd just drop in and leave this link with you for a little advanced warning of something which might be of interest to someone here. Apologies in advance if someone has posted about it already. I just tripped over this article whilst browsing away and was interested in some of the tips given - for example, you never can tell just how useful a flip-flop might be!biggrin.gif
There will be a 'free' guide called '1,000 Ways to Save Money and Time' in this weekend's Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph.
I know many of you have provided a mine of helpful tips to MSErs,action-smiley-033.gif, but just in case you've missed one...wink.gif
However, the prize for the most underemployed household ingredient must go to salt, whose unsung properties stretch to six pages – including deodorising trainers, to name just one.
Most of the 1,000 tips assembled by the experts at Reader's Digest for the Telegraph are gloriously simple. I'll leave you with a little quiz. Match up an item from this list: a colander, sparkling water, peanut butter, Coca-Cola, potatoes, onions and peppercorns, to this extra-curricular use: clear blocked drains, prevent fat spattering, stop pet destruction, remove price-tag adhesive, stop red clothes losing their colour, shell oysters, clean silver.

The answers will be revealed in '1,000 Ways to Save Money and Time', available with The Daily Telegraph this Saturday, Jan 31, and The Sunday Telegraph on the following day ''
I hope this will help someone here.sLo_hug2.gif

    Much Love,
