  • Freezing sandwhiches for the week like cheese, ham etc.
I've started doing this so no need to do them everyday.
Make as usual, wrap then freeze. Get one out each morning should be defrosted by lunch.
I've started doing this for ds1s lunch box.

Quick wash your washing unless it's soiled along with using 1tbsp of powder and half the conditioner. Cut my electric bill down doing this as well as waiting for the basket to be a big pile as I have an 11kg washer I want to get my money's worth out of each wash.

I have a bees wax block in my sewing box. I use it to wax the thread when I'm sewing on heavy buttons. It gives good grip and makes the thread less liable to be worn away by the button. I hadn't heard of using it for laces but that sounds a handy tip.
Mine is extra frugal because my bees wax came from a hive of my grandmothers about seventy years ago!!!!

what a lovely thing to have to remind you of your grandmother.

  • Some great ideas here. Here are my suggestions.
    1. We block off the front door to keep the heat in. Going through the back door keeps the heat in.
    2. With the dark evenings and lack of daylight we shut the curtains when the light goes. I have crafted a wall of polysterine to put behind the curtains to insulate the room.
    3. When funds are short I live in one room. I sleep on the sofa with the dogs so I don't heat the whole house. I am strict with the heating.
4 I have a wind up radio and a torch. Keeps me happy and entertained.
    5. I buy full fat milk from aldi. 4 pints for a pound and dilute it with water. I keep a spare container 8 pints for the price of four.
    6. I reused tea bags, who likes strong tea, I get an extra cup for mytime and money.
    7. I eat out of the sauce pan so there is no washing up.
On recycling and bin day I get up early and go through the local bins put out. I have found so really nice bits. It is amazing what people throw away.
    8. Look in skips, sell on ebay and enjoy the profits.
  • I decant washing up liquid into an oil/vinegar drizzler bottle. It goes much further than a squeezy bottle. The suds are for effect, not cleaning power!

When you think a tube of moisturiser is empty, it's not.

Cut the top off and you will find that there is lots clinging to the sides and a puddle at the bottom.

Cover with a tissue or cotton wool pad and the top of a hairspray can to hold it in place. You'll probably get at least a week more out if it.

  • When you think the tooth paste tube is empty, snip the end of it off with scissors - you'll get a few more days out of it :money:

    • Use the card inside from kitchen roll/cling film to store small plastic bags in your kitchen drawer. I keep the bags from loose fruit and veg for this purpose.
    • stop using J cloths, buy dishcloths (or use old bits of t shirt if you want to be really frugal) to wipe down the kitchen and put them in with the hot wash to keep them clean. Pension them off for floors or bathrooms as they get older.
    • slice up the stems of broccoli and freeze for adding to soups and sauces
    • look out for fine knit 100% wool jumpers in charity shops and wear under your other clothes to keep warm I winter
  • almost empty chocolate spread bottles I 'nuke ' for 15 seconds in the microwave to get the very last bit out with a pallete knife,I also do this with the boys Marmite bottles.two of my DGS can get through a bottle easily and I make it eke out to the very last bit.
A drop of vinegar into the tomato or brown sauce bottles also get the bits out of the bottom out.
Left over fat from the roast tin goes into a small cup with no handle to be used again from the fridge (its my dripping pot),I also save any bacon fat for re-use to fry an egg or ommelette in a small glass jar.
Any stalks of brocolli or cauliflower get chopped up and put into a bag in the freezer for soups later. The residue from the slow cooker when I have cooked a chicken gets poured into a pyrex jug and when cold the fat skimmed off and the jelly stock underneath goes into the freezer for stock for soups
I save odd ends of soap in an old jam jar and when I have enough I melt it down iby standing it in a saucepan of water ,when all melted I pour into a small lined with foil container and when cold I have a new bar of soap.I have a friend and two dDds who save me their left over bits of soap,so often I have an assortment of scents in one bar and a nice 'marbled effect soap
My washing machine I use half the stated amount and the other half I use ordinary soda crystals mixed in with it to wash with and always use white vinegar instead of conditioner in the machine.
Vinegar and newspaper make an excellent cleaner for mirrors, tiles and windows.

  • Lists....

    Store cupboard list
    fridge freezer lists.
Use these to meal plan then do a shopping list.

List regularly brought food prices so you know if it's a bargain.
List clothes sizes of those you buy for so if you see a great item in a CS you know it should fit.

    I love lists...:T
