Tea lights on my hearth reflect against the marble backing, thus giving double heat.

Lol, ok maybe we manage the odd cuddle too!
Have an 'on toast' tea one day a week, egg or beans usually for us.
We also have a leftovers meal once every week or two, tonight I found 2 sausages, 3 rashers of bacon, half a tin of beans & some left over mash in the fridge, I added an egg each & that's what we had for tea, I also make soup with all the left over veg at the weekend & it does lunches for me the next week.

Having been brought up to eat my dinner "all of it, or no pudding" warbaby rationing etc I have found it hard to get out of the habit of having proper dinner. Then thought what the heck if I only want a pudding that's what I will have, only me to please now. So on days when I just don't fancy a proper dinner I have just a pudding. Last night my dinner was banana and custard, really enjoyed it, does feel I have been a bit naughty though, sorry Mum

Some good ideas. I have another few.
On occasion I have run out of credit for the electric I have myself a bbq in the garden. It is a nice opportunity to chat to my neighbours and a way to keep warm and have a hot meal. I always have a few spuds cooked as I can eat them afterwards. I have hot dogs in tins when on offer. Havent had one for a while so may have one in the new year. I have my own bbq made from an unused metal bin with an old oven shelf. I keep a store of wood for the fuel. Very cheap.
I also have a large pot of tea on the go. to keep warm0 -

We must be around the same age as I too was brought up o 'Eat it up,good men died to bring that food to this country'
When your faced with eating snoek which was a tinned fish that tasted revolting I wished (under my breath ,that they hadn't bothered)
The other night I too had a pudding instead of a meal, but I had eaten a fairly ample meal at lunchtime so I wasn't that hungry,so I had rhubarb and custard and it was delicious.:rotfl::rotfl:Does make you feel a bit wicked though doesn't it :rotfl:0 -
If you have an open fire or a wood burning stove you can start the fire by using the inner rolls of toilet rolls and kitchen rolls. Also you can use egg boxes. These always light my fires no problems with kindling too and save money on buying expensive fire lighters.

To get value from your cheese, (especially if it's mature and costs that bit more), use a vegetable peeler to slice wafer thin slices off it for your sandwiches. You use far less than if you'd used a knife, and it's better than grated cheese...Dogs have owners, CATS have STAFF...0

I started a frugal tip of the day in December but it's been merged into this thread? Anyone know how this happens?
Anyway, here's my tip for today...
Using old 2 litre squash bottles. Decant some squash into the empty bottle and make up the diluted squash to fill the bottle. Put in the fridge and hide any other squash somewhere safe. This will stop the kids/teens using loads of squash to make strong drinks, making it go further and hopefully saving their teeth.0 -
Switch your toastie maker, George Foreman grill etc on and leave to heat up as normal. Take a couple of wet sheets of kitchen roll and wring out, turn off your machine and lay the sheets, one on top of the other, close the lid and leave for a few minutes.
You will get quite a lot of steam coming out for the first minute but it will take off all the stuff which normal wiping won't.
I had some melted cheese that had burned into a rock hard mass onto my breville, used this method and it came off with a few wipes of the damp kitchen roll.0 -
