I got this one from Jackieo when I first came to MSE.

When you boil the kettle put any remaining boiled water in to a flask. This can then be used to make another cup of tea or to rinse things without having to reboil the kette.

Keep, very easily to hand, needles ready threaded with white cotton and with black or dark thread. It means that when you spot a tiny repair that needs doing in clothing, or that a button needs sewing back on, it takes seconds and you don't put it off.

a few of mine I like to do, much to annoyance of others in the house:

    - after you have used the oven for cooking, leave the oven door open to allow it to help heat your kitchen/house as it cools back down

    - water down "ready mixed" car screenwash - it often doesnt need to be able to cope with -20 degrees, so stick some water in it, especially during the summer. never use washing up liquid though - it clogs the jets and contains salt which rots the bodywork

    - only boil the kettle with enough water in it to do the amount of cups you want to fill. You can even work this out perfectly by filling the cups cold and into the kettle 1st

    - if you have dvd players, xboxes etc and other items that sit off but have big "power blocks" then put them on their own extension socket with a switch on it. turn them off when not in use.

    - put energy saving bulbs everywhere you can. If you have fancy light fittings with lots of bulbs in, go for lower rated ones if you can.

    - If you have a set of say 9 spotlamps on a kitchen ceiling, create a pattern of one that are on and fill the others with blown bulbs. Still looks good but uses half the amount of power.

    - keep doors closed to retain the heat

    - turn off lights in rooms you are not in

    - buy cheap bread at supermarket (10p rolls etc) and freeze them. use them for sandwiches for work etc. Unfreeze them night before or even make the sandwich with the frozen bread - it will be nice and defrosted time you come to use it and not require refrigeration until then if you are unable to use a fridge at work.

    - wash clothes at 30 degrees

I have a bees wax block in my sewing box. I use it to wax the thread when I'm sewing on heavy buttons. It gives good grip and makes the thread less liable to be worn away by the button. I hadn't heard of using it for laces but that sounds a handy tip.
Mine is extra frugal because my bees wax came from a hive of my grandmothers about seventy years ago!!!!

Always 'flatten' your roll of toilet paper before putting it on the roll holder.

I've been doing this for years and it makes it harder to pull freely so folks will use less of it :D.

I've seen this recommended a few times.

Where do you think the heat goes if you leave the oven door closed?

Stand nearly-empty bottles of viscous liquids upside down; if they won't readily stand on their lids, place them in a little pot to keep them from falling over. This means that after a few hours the remaining contents will actually be at the top of the bottle, so it's easier to get the last out.

Obviously, with some things (eg washing up liquid) you can just rinse the bottle to get the last out, but you don't want rinse out things like hair conditioner, which you don't want diluted.
