All our savings go into pension which is very tax efficient (ie most money for least work) but it does mean that 'available cash' (which is actually the result of an offset mortgage rather than real money) is at best flat and tends to drift down (inversely correlated with how much hoarder DW has added to the 'stuff without a home' category in the house) which is pretty miserable - if they suddenly remove the tax free lump sum when you start drawing your pension then we will be in trouble :(

same worry here. Its the tax free lump sum we will need to keep us afloat
The state pension age keeps shifting upwards so I don't even count this into the calculations
Its a difficult tight rope to walk - OH has new bosses so this change over period is fraught but work is all he has ever done. If he retired he would be bored rigid as he has few outside interests.
We have had an empty nest again since May so I am used to having my own space again and OH would get on my nerves just hanging around the house and cluttering the place up :D

IMHO too many people are relying on the tax free lump sum to clear their mortgages. Any government is going to be wary of doing anything that will cause a load of people to have a mortgage that needs redeeming with no way of clearing it.

I'm mid 50s and the number of friends who took out interest only mortgages 25-30 years ago that they have no way of clearing other than lump sums or inheritance is worrying. The great theory of downsizing has been blown out of the water by kids who haven't moved out while they save for their own futures. These mortgages originally had endowments attached, but either the endowments didn't produce enough or the untangling of endowments from mortgages left a pot of money that people used for home improvements/ debt reduction/ support for their kids....

Mystifies me as to why people stuck on brands such as Heinz:rotfl:.

Why not 'value' ketchups? Are they still not cheaper even after price on Heinz that is being discontinued?

(I think there is something I am missing:rotfl:.)

Think there is something you are missing if you use it in cooking Savvy. I dont use/buy much ketchup but do use it in cooking, and it just has to be Heinz :) Always put a good dollop in Spag Bol, Chilli, Shepherd's Pie, Beef Goulash & Dumplings, some soups, etc.

Have to sleep on my back for a while  Back was hurting so come downstairs and sat in armchair catching up . Looks like I missed lots. Might be able to do the £5 off Esso thing though or has it expired. Will have a look again.
DD here from Oz land. She was rooting through the cupboards and found some homepride sauces that expired this year march and wants to chuck them out :eek:
Oh well could be worse :D

Wishing you a speedy recovery gocat xx

I used to be hooked on Heinz but since getting the money saving bug my previous brand loyalty has gone almost completely. I still buy Heinz if it's silly cheap but otherwise Lidless do a very good substitute.

I also no longer insist on Kellogs, Imperial Leather, Andrex and a few others .

I think that the general public are very much more influenced by brands that we are.
