Love reading about all the food prep, I’m in agreement, if you have time to prep ahead it’s worth it’s weight in gold when the big day comes.

Just unwrapped a large unsmoked gammon joint and have it soaking it in a pan of cold water overnight. Even though it’s unsmoked I still like to soak it to get as much salt as I can out of it. Will put it in the slow cooker in the morning with veggies and fresh cooking liquid then roast it in the afternoon in a JD and brown sugar glaze. I would normally have done this the week before Christmas any other year but things have been so manic here getting things ready I’m a little behind.

Salmon is being cooked tomorrow too. Usually do a whole salmon but this year as we are going to mils Boxing Day, I’m just cooking a single side.

Feeling pretty organised, sending DH out tomorrow to get some more lemons and think that’s about it for shopping. Will still pop out to check out the whoopsies though ;)

For years now, I haven't blanched veg before freezing. :o

I've noticed fresh parsnips which have been frozen actually roast better, but I never knew there were reasons to blanch them first. :o

Pigs in blankets were prepped and put in freezer last week. I use normal size good-quality sausages, cut in half, and each half is rolled in a rasher of streaky bacon. I noticed the other day in MS they also sell 'jumbo' versions (at a horrendous price) but when I looked closely they don't look as generous as mine. :)

I thought about you earlier Seren when I made an emergency visit to the co op:D

Unsure if I mentioned but I’ve been saving £2 coins all year and this has bought our Christmas meat and other luxuries:)
I just needed to buy the sausages and streaky bacon today and headed towards T....until I saw the traffic. I then turned around and popped to the co op.

Got what I wanted and out popped a £1 off wys £5:D

  • Just called in at A on the way home to spend the apg expiring tomorrow, thinking it would be quieter this time of night.

    Wrong. Jam-packed full.

I bet I was the only person in there spending under a fiver. :o (Under £1 actually after the apg.)

One man said he'd already been and done a big shop very early this morning and had come back for the remainder.

Felt so sorry for the self-scanners - their tills closed at 10, so they had to go through as normal.:(

I was thinking tonight that anyone who manages to get through the congestion to find whoopsies will have earned every single thing they find. :)

Seren, I am thinking that my old mortgage might qualify for this. Do I just Google, or can you send a link please? Don't worry if you are hassled! I don't want to add to the pre-Christmas stress.

Yup...think I’m just about finished with the shops.

I only need cream and fresh bread but can get that locally
