Smart Meters

The meter doesn't have any menus. It literally just has a left and right button which cycle between Input and output. I tried holding either of them down for 10 seconds as it says on Eon's website but it doesn't do anything.0

What is your meter manufacturer and model?Zaul22 said:The meter doesn't have any menus. It literally just has a left and right button which cycle between Input and output. I tried holding either of them down for 10 seconds as it says on Eon's website but it doesn't do anything.0 -
OK I managed to find some instructions buried in the basement of the Eon Next website and have found the 2 rates. I know they are supposed to send readings automatically but considering how extremely unreliable they seem to be, it really shouldn't be that hard to find them manually.0

Download the free App BRIGHT and you can see whether your comms hub and meters are connected to the DCC network.Zaul22 said:OK I managed to find some instructions buried in the basement of the Eon Next website and have found the 2 rates. The comms hub acts like a mobile phone. It is connected to the DCC network waiting for a call for data (usually once a day) from the supplier’s IT system.0 -
I have an appointment in few weeks for smart meters to be installed.
Has anyone here asked for their smart meters to be installed in a slightly different place (within about 1 meter) from the old meters. If so, did you need to let them know before installation and was there an extra charge for it?

You will need to have that discussion with your supplier before the installation visit. Installers are not gas safe engineers and they do not have the time or training to install new gas pipes or a new electricity meter mounting board.iwant2asave said:I have an appointment in few weeks for smart meters to be installed.

Surely they have to be gas safe, to disconnect and reconnect a gas meter?[Deleted User] said:

"Sorry mate, that needs an engineer and I'm just a worker."

We are into semantics. Most gas safe engineers are plumbers whereas in Germany most heating installers are degree qualified engineers. The key point is that meter installers have bespoke training limited to the work that they are required to undertake. If they suspect a boiler issue, they stick a label on it. If they are unhappy about the gas or electricity supply they will turn the stopcock off/or pull the main fuse and walk away.victor2 said:
