Unfortunately I appear to have a CAD rather than an IHD and whilst n3rgy can 'see' it they cannot use it for authorisation as it is not on SmartEnergyCompany's trusted and certified product list.

You have an IHD, it just also happens to be a CAD, and it is up to you if you choose to use the CAD side of its features, so if you do not connect it to wifi it cannot send your data anywhere, so you should not worry about that side of things.
The quid pro quo for sharing your data via a CAD is that you get better and more immediate information about your usage, in exchange for letting the provider gain more knowledge about the way you use the energy.
If you don't value the information that much then don't connect it to your wifi...

Yes, I appreciate and understand that but, as far as I am concerned and other than for billing purposes, it is my data and I would like the capability of being able to analyse it without uncontrolled third party access. Maybe a future IHD version will offer the customer the ability to extract/download data locally.
Buy a Hildebrand IHD/CAD and it will provide you with a data feed. For security reasons, there are no plans to allow consumers direct access to smart meter data.
Hildebrand, good as they are, still require you to send your data to them first and that is not what the OP wants to do.
Re the local data feed, there are security concerns about allowing local access direct to the meter, not sure I've seen any credible reason why that would also apply to providing a local data feed from a CAD...?

  • you could try the SmartThings Energy one, i think all the data in there is accessible for users to integrate into other Smart Home platforms

That is based on, at most, half-hour data retrieved from the DCC, for the prior day, not the much more granular data available in near real-time from the IHD/CAD.

  • real time would be better but as a free service the half hour data is a good start?

Fit your own energy monitor. Several different models on the market. Some just clip round a cable between meter & consumer unit. Others need to be wired in. I have two (from Peacefair) that give me updates every minute in real time. Data is logged and displayed via a web browser.
Would really like to be able to monitor gas consumption, but quality flow meters get a tad expensive.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
  • We have a smart meter installed by British Gas.  Anyone know why my latest British Gas bill would show estimated readings?  I thought Smart meters sent readings automatically.  Tried to contact BG - but chat never seems to work!

Smart meters do not send out meter readings. The meter connects to the DCC network and your supplier pulls data from the meter once per day. Clearly, what matters is the connection to the DCC Network. You can check this connection by signing up to N3rgy.com. Use the ‘I am a consumer’ link. If no data appears, then you have a possible meter/comms hub/ network connection problem.
  • Had a smart meter installed 2 weeks ago. Council home had prepayment meters installed when i moved in. Grudged paying for them to be removed so left them in. The electricity under the smart meter stayed on top up, but the gas went to monthly bills. I wasnt told this would happen, im now used to ( after 6 years of being in property) topping up and having what i pay for so monthly bills werent wanted. With the big increase coming and  estimated bills i didnt want to be overcharged. Phoned up and was told it would take 5 days to swap gas meter to top up. After a week i phoned back and im now told it takes upto 91 days to communicate. Apparently it is installed but not commisioned. My electricity communication works but gas doesnt? I feel im being led along so the company can estimate my gas bill over the winter and charge more than i will use.

My advice is simple. Do not use Prepay unless you have to as it costs more! Also pay bt DD as that will save you money too.

You shouldn't be getting "estimated" bills with either PP or Smart Meters. If you are then take your own readings and enter them online every month.

I have had my own issues with getting one of my smart meters to work correctly and I still haven't received my IHD some 9 months after having the first smart meter installed! But it's not that essential for me, really.
