£45.54 paid off a CC (£44 minimum payment and a £1.54 TT). Moderately gutted as the minimum payment wasn't supposed to be taken as I'd already paid off several times the minimum amount well in advance of the statement date? Slightly confused as I didn't think that the lender was one of those that had changed their policies to ignore additional payments...

Back to work and everyone seems grumpy and intense! Hey ho, onwards into 2019...

I understand why lenders have done that - and overall it's a 'Good Thing' - but I too was hit by a debit to my c/ac this morning which I'd forgotten about (being a CC ddr - my 0% one with Xmas + DD's 21st bday spends on) I did know that this one (Hfx) was one of the changed policies, I just haven't really had to take account of it before!! :rotfl: I'd already set myself a very tight budget for Jan as it was! :D

Finally got rid of all the Christmas and New Year visitors and DH has gone back to work today. So today is a practice for me - practising being at home on my own as I only have 7 days left at work.

Just catching up on diaries - you really are addicted to those little additional payments. You are braver than me - I stock-pile them in the cash saver behind one of the CA and then pay off a lump when it is more than a certain level or at the end of the month - albeit mine is off the mortgage now the CC and loans are all gone.

At the risk of being wise after the event, it might give you a little more wiggle space if you did this - especially with the cards on 0% as there is no advantage in trickle payments versus lumps. I guess it comes down to whether it needs to be out of reach completely. I have this psychological barrier that it is in savings once it is in the cash saver and apart from emergencies and house insurance, I try not to touch it.

SL - I am sure you are right - but I have a history of being far too clever for my own good ;) Out of sight, out of mind (and current account).

£4.06 paid off a CC (TT, tiny amount of cashback and H@lifax current account reward). I will pass below £16,000 in less than a fortnight :)

I am so thrilled, I have to tell you as I think this will appeal to you. Some time ago I asked Mr Suffolk to make me a coffee tamper after I fully investigated the options and was shocked at the price of some that were basically quite simple (IMHO, with no real expertise). They looked like these; stainless steel ones or these colour coded ones.

Well I now have a bespoke made to measure aluminium one that he has made me to fit these two pots in stainless steel and aluminium.

He has actually made two from the aluminium blank he bought and they are so beautiful, tactile and beautifully weighted. I need to try them tomorrow morning (never mind that Bialetti advise that the coffee does not need tamping - if the worst comes to worst I have two beautiful paper weights!)

Is Mr Suffolk a wood turner? That sounds fab!

Sort of. He is a Resistant Materials Teacher - Product Design, wood-work and metal-work to my generation of former students.

In addition to my coffee tamper, he also made me a wooden bowl. He glued together all the off-cuts of ply wood that his students discarded into a sort of solid lump and then turned a bowl for me for Christmas. Apart from his (over)use of beeswax, a little too close to present-giving time (so it smelled and required lining with paper before use) that is also stunning. It has part rings in hoops of different colours throughout - really unique and personal.

What he needs is a lathe with a computerised controller so he can set these jobs up and run them without him having to hand craft them. It could be a minor revenue stream to top up his retirement!

I honestly think we should hook up your husband and my f-i-l. He built a CNC lathe in his garage for fun! :D

This Christmas I received a beautiful hand turned shaving bowl, am angling for a tofu press next :)

Grim day at work - the start of the first full week for most people after Christmas and everybody was in a foul mood. I tried not to let it get me down, but it is difficult.

Mega skint and looking forward to getting paid in a week.

    £0.79 paid off a CC.
