We just had pizza too!!! My new breadmaker made the dough and kids decorated their own.. They love it. Well down you, much nicer and cheaper than take away or frozen ones, I think!!

A really quick hm pizza idea is to use pitta breads as the base. I make these for lunch boxes to great acclaim ;)
  • i use a french bread stick cut in half and lenghtways and pull out the bread and fill with whatever. they are good and cheap ...
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!

I used a really simple recipe for the dough it was 2 cups of strong flour, 1 packed of yeast, 2 teaspoons of olive oil, a pinch of salt and a 1/2 pt of warm water. Took about 45 mins for the dough to rise and then we just rolled it out, I didnt think that there would be enough dough for the 4 of us but it made 4 x 10" pizza and i couldnt even finish mine. Delish.. I agree much better than a bought one and alot cheaper too.

check the ingredients for hydrogenated fat. I bought the sainsbury pizza base mix and it went straight in the bin when I read it containted this

Hi, the Tesco pizza base i use has no hydrogenated fat content at all it contains olive oil. I,m also like you jenny i never use anything with hydrogenated fat in it, (father-in-law suffers from high cholestrol and has just spent 2 weeks in hospital, puts you off eating any fat of any kind seeing what he,s been through)

Another convert for HM here. No breadmaker, so done by hand....the kids love them. Next time we're going to try and make cheese crust...can't wait.

I always used to make base by old fashioned hand made method. Think have mentioned it on here before, but there is nothing so good & calming when you are in a foul mood, taking it all out on this poor wee pizza dough! :o
Had to give that up due to skin problems & use breadmaker, it's good, but nowhere as much fun, or stress relieving!
I find one batch in my BM makes enough for 3 large pizzas. Often freeze 1 portion in a ball in freezer bag. I toss ball of dough in a wee bit of flour before putting in the bag....easier to get out when defrosted.
(Tried rolling out & freezing on plate, also part baking and freezing...both methods took up too much room in my freezer, but might be okay for others.)
  • I've just started making my own too and we love it. We got two pizza stones from here (http://www.choiceful.com/disprod.php?pId=70302) because they were so cheap and our oven is a bit uneven heat-wise. It's especially great because I like a thicker crust while OH likes a thin crispy crust, and we like different toppings, so everyone's happy.

I do have a question about freezing part-baked bases: Do you put cardboard or something under the bases to keep them flat? Anyone have any ideas on how to store them in a chest freezer?

Homemade for me - I do dough mix with olive oil in breadmaker. This makes 2 BIG pizza bases. I make a big batch of homemade tomato sauce and freeze portions. Pizzas are usually topped with mozzarella, red pepper slices, sliced cherry toms, grated parmesan, basil leaves (sometimes olives and/or proscuitto) and a shake or two of olive oil.

    Easy, cheap and delicious.
