Hi, the Tesco pizza base i use has no hydrogenated fat content at all it contains olive oil. I,m also like you jenny i never use anything with hydrogenated fat in it, (father-in-law suffers from high cholestrol and has just spent 2 weeks in hospital, puts you off eating any fat of any kind seeing what he,s been through)
ooh, thanks for that, I'll get them in Tesco then0 -
I made some pizza for the first time tonight. I used a pizza base mix from tesco. It tasted fine but was a bit flat and crispy. What do you think the problem was? I don't really know how to knead, any instructions? and how hot is hand hot???
Any help appreciated. Thanks.0 -
Hi MegsMum,
When I knead pizza dough, I just use the palms of my hands and my knuckles to knock all the air out of it, then stretch it, fold it and do it again. Hopefully someone will come on soon with better instructions.
Edit: Just found this link: How to knead dough
By hand hot I think they mean warm enough to put your hand into comfortably.
I'm not sure what went wrong as I've never used a pizza mix, but if you have a look in The Complete Pizza Collection you might find a post that will help.

Hi all,
Just wondered if you can help with a really quick query I have?
Have decided to try out my new breadmakers 'pizza dough' function for tea tonight, I just wondered if I need to cook the toppings first? I am planning to top with bacon, onion, peppers and mushrooms.. I preferably wanted to prep all the toppings beforehand but don't want to risk a manky pizza with raw toppings!!
Also, am about to make French Bread in the BM with a view to turning it into Garlic Bread to go with the pizza, how do I go about making the garlic butter and can it be made with chopped garlic as opposed to fresh?
Thanks in advance,
Sarah xx0 -
Hiya.
I don't often cook the toppings for pizza 1st but with bacon I probably would & onion can be gently cooked if you want. we chop it up small or the children won't eat it.
Garlic bread is amazing from the slow cooker. I tend to make the dough in the slow cooker then roll it out into a baguette & while its still warm spread the garlic butter on the slices. yum really fancy that now lol. Garlic butter i tend to make with fresh garlic but i can't see any reason it couldnt be made with the jars of pre chopped garlic you can get.
Have fun & you won't be disappointed with the results.
hugs

Hi
Bizarrely, this is what we had for dinner last night! I must admit I didn't cook the bacon or onion first, but they were chopped up quite small, and I cooked the pizza for about 20 minutes I suppose which I think is plenty of time to cook bacon.
Hope it goes well tonight!

I make this with the kids as they love helping with the topping - we use fried onions and bacon but the other stuff raw, the kids always taste the quality first before the pizza goes in the oven.
Re
garlic bread for about 1 pack of butter i use 2-3 cloves of fresh garlic (depends on taste) or you can use the tinned or tube stuff - use about a teaspoon. Good luck!:D0 -
Thanks guys, am off to set BM to make pizza dough in time for tea before doing the washing up... will let you know how it turns out - seems sad but a few months ago, we practically had Dominos on speed dial, never occurred to me to have a go at making my own.. just hoping it tastes as nice lol0

Hi there
Next time you make pizza have a go at using (philladelphia-or an own brand one) for spreading on the base instead of tomato paste etc....if you have children the usually love it..you also need less toppings beacuse of the flavour...especially if you use the garlic, or chive one!! i also use it to make garlic bread sometimes....especially good if you make it just like a pizza base instead of a baguette..that way the cooking times are about the same as for your pizza..you can always bash in more garlic..and yes the bottled lazy garlic works just fine...regards jill-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
when makeing the garlic butter I usually mix it up ( garlic/ butter/ ground pepper) and then roll in to a roll shape then wrap in greasproof paper and stick in the freezer for half ano hour then when ready to cook it cut the butter into slices and slot into the loaf, just means it doesnt all drip out as quickly into your oven:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
