There was a recipe on here previously a quick and easy one with no yeast - using self raising flour.... can't find it at the momement though!!

Ooh, I'll have a scoot around and see if I can find it. I'll post a link if I do.

    Thank you
  • Hi, like the idea of using french bread, this is often reduced in the supermarket but I don't normally buy it as I wouldn't be able to use it all, so thanks for the tip.

I have started making home made pizza and make up a basic scone dough for the base, 8oz sr flour, 2oz marg, enough milk to make a soft dough. Can also add some herbs to this. For the topping I use a little tomato puree, I find the tube ones better value than the tins. fry off some mushrooms in oil and garlic and top with a sprinkle of grated cheese.

You can make up some bases in advance and freeze these as I often batch make scones and freeze so they should be OK. Can then make up as needed with whatever topping are on offer.

    Cheers
    Cats.

tesco do a pizza base mix in a green packet. Its around 56p I find it stretches to 3 small-0medium pizzas but can be sticky so i always use extra flour.Expensive considering its just flour and yeast really.
My lads love mini frankfurters on their pizzas.
Got to say asdas fresh pizzas are lovely. If you have mostly meaty toppings especially spicy/tandoori? chicken then you are hard pressed making it cheaper.
I invested in some lovely garlic oil and chili oil.The chili oil is lovely on pepperoni pizza. The garlic is gorgeous for frying mushrooms in.

To be honest with french bread it doesnt matter so much if its gone hard next day as long as you put a drizzle of olive oil on it to moisten it.Crisps lovely n crunchy in oven,or add extra sauce to moisten.Ver cheap as they get knocked down to 10p of an evening in our tesco.I also slice it,butter it one side and grate garlic on,grill for instant garlic bread. Also nice with a tiny bit of mozzarella on.

nic82 for the base I use flour, good blob of oil of choice and water. Dead simple, everyone loves it and you can mix in herbs and garlic or whatever too.

Hi Mariel, do you use SR flour? If so, does that mean you don't need any yeast?

Yes I use SR. All I put in is the flour, oil and water and just guess the quantities until it has a doughy texture (so you can pick it up really). No yeast at all. It is more of a knife and fork pizza but I can't say anyone's ever complained!

I use muffins when making pizzas for the kids - they can make up their own pizzas and don't realise that I'm sneeking in veg like pepper, sweetcorn, mushroom, spring onion, pineapple, etc.

Thanks for everyones replies. Know this might sound a bit dim, but if I want to freeze it, should I

freeze the bases with no topping before I cook the pizza,
freeze the whole pizza with topping before cooking

or is there another alternative? Eek! Not sure what I've started here!
