I agree. There is no way to tell what offer one gets till the statement arrives. I called to confirm that I am getting the cashback and was assured. But I agree they are not competent. Called twice to tell them of the incomplete address detail - first time I was put on hold for 20 minutes so that she could reconfirm update for me; 2nd time I called to make sure, got an apology and promised that it was updated yet I still receive letters from them with incomplete address. I wouldn't be surprised some are lost on the way.
But this is not to be confused with citibank current&saving card where the operation is based in India - they are polite and very efficient. Am reluctant to move my account despite a promise of £100 cashback from Natwest! :T0 -
On top of it - they make you dial a rip-off 0870 number - with no alternative.0

citibank ARE contactable on a free phone and it usually routes to india or some such. they can deal with all enquiries about the visa card account.

It does appear that Citibanks call center is in India and I must admit I didn't know about the freephone number as they only give you the ripoff 0870 number to contact them.
Regarding them dealing with all enquires about the visa card account, they tell you lies lies lies, I wouldn't exactly call that dealing with your enquiry.0 -
I made a complaint about a month ago at the office of CEO on the cashback issue. Today I received a response:
"[snip]
We can advise that after a full review of the circumstances relating to your complaints that due to a technical problem with the website you applied through, unfortunately the request for a cashback account was not received by us.
You will be pleased to know that we have now rectified this error and your account is accruing cashback on your purchases. Any previous cashback will be backdated to when your account was initially opened and will appear on your next monthly statement.
[snip]"
They first promised to sort out the matter in two weeks but wrote to me twice before this letter advising me that more time were required while marketing department was making a full investigation.
I cannot say that I am happy with all the hassle I have to go through. However, I feel that the office of CEO showed more positive attitude than their CS, who kept saying that they might have made a mistake but they could do nothing about it, and granted my single demand in my complaint, namely rectifying their error. So I will stop here.Mark Hughes' blue and white army0 -

Just checked my online citicard account-I received the card a few weeks ago. It turns out they did give 1% cashback. :j It's printed on the reward section. I m impressed. Must be all those complaints getting thru to them and I m yielding the benefit now.0

Well done johnk, unfortunately I never got a response from the CEO . Mind you I wouldn't have wanted to have continue with them anyway.0

I applied for the cashback card.
Called Citibank to confirm (twice) and have now discovered that it is not set up as a cashback card.
I would love to know what their criteria for Credit Scoring is as I may know a little about this topic after working for a High Street Bank for 13 years both at a branch but more importantly at the Computer Centre of said bank.
Anyway I have applied for one of the 0.8% cashback cards and upon receiving it will be closing my Citibank account.
I will happily argue out with any Citibank official if required.0
