O2 to ditch Tugo
Comments
-
I lived in an area where I could only get an 02 signal (or any other signal for that matter) by standing in the bay window.
I tried TUGO for about six months and it never worked for me, either at home or when visiting friends, who also had a poor 02 signal.
I rang 02 to complain about the TUGO app, and how it was useless, and I was going to leave them.
In response, 02 offered to supply me with a BoostBox, which solved all my problems. I now receive five bars on my phone anywhere in the house, and I've programmed my friends 02 phones into it so they get the same when at my home.
For some reason I forget, I am on a Sim only 12 month business contract, but I get a very good deal every year. Currently on 2Gb, unlimited minutes and texts for £9 a month including VAT. Anyone can get the business deal."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". Just been on O2 chat & they have told me a new app will be launched to replace TUGo...........
No details forthcoming.0 -
i'm hopping mad too, on Friday I had online and call chat with them that resulted in my tugo app being removed and supposedly wifi calling enabled, my 5s doesn't do wifi calling so I was basically cut off.
I went to store yesterday and had to upgrade my phone to a SE with wifi calling, pay £50 to finish my phone payments with them then set up a new contract of £27.40 a month.
I thought this was my solution, sadly not, wifi calling works fine, however ***O2 WIFI CALLING DOES NOT DO TEXTS***
Im going to have to trek back today and give them the phone back and hopefully move to three or EE.Owner of a cute cottage in the North York Moors :j0 -

Good news if true but why didn't they launch it before scrapping tugo or at least tell us there is going to be a new app before they lose all their "black area" customers to 3. I won't hold my breath.0 -
Typical idiocy from o2 (and Vodafone for that matter) as there is absolutely no technical reason to restrict iPhone access, all iPhones from the 5S/5C onwards are capable as shown by the fact EE and Three allow all compatible iPhones to connect.
Your reading abilities have failed you again.
iPhones are the ones to be permitted to use them functions.0 -

No I won't either.
Looks like a lot of folk will be moving away from O2.0 -

Nope, I suspect your lack of reading ability is at fault.
Maybe go back and slooowwwllly read Browntoa’s post and my reply and you might actually be able to comprehend what Browntoa said and what I replied.
You could even ask for help if you are still struggling after reading the quote and reply a few times====0 -
I assume its to force us slowly onto
https://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/news/2017/03/o2-finally-launches-wi-fi-and-4g-calling/
O2 has at last launched Wi–Fi and 4G calling on its network, making it the last of the four main UK networks to offer the service.
Until now, users who wanted to make or take calls using home wireless or public Wi-Fi networks had to download and use O2’s Tu Go app in order to do so.
Now though, O2 users can use Wi–Fi when there’s no mobile reception without having to go through the app.
Disappointingly, Wi–Fi calling is only available on Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. O2 has promised that more devices will follow soon
Only if your handset has O2 firmware installed.
I moved across from 3 which supplied me with a signal booster that connected to my wifi.
I researched O2 as I live in a 3 story house that struggles to get signal with many providers, and so far tugo has worked a treat. Dreading when they turn it off as my phone does not have O2 firmware.0 -
Talking to O2 now and have to see how things pan out.
I moved to O2 because the togo service formed and important part of the contract (coming from 3 who offered a free home signal booster).
At present they are talking about the 4g calls as an alternative, but with an unlocked Galaxy S8 that has the international Samsung firmware, this won't work on my phone.
My current options are:
1) Re-instate the tugo service
2) Supply me with a free signal booster
2) Supply me with an unlocked Galaxy S8 that has the O2 firmware
3) Cancel the contract
Customer services seems a little bit clueless, as they asked whether they could just send the 4g firmware app to my phone. I had to explained its a little bit more complex then that and would invalidate the warranty. Just waiting for a call back now.0 -

For clarity (as Browntoa mentions the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus), it will work with any supported iPhone as there isn’t a network specific firmware for any iPhone, the software limitation applies to Android handsets.====0
