EDIT: If you download Windows 10 through Windows Update, the size is about 2.5 to 2.7 GBs.
Thanks fingers crossed, I’m +70% by running Fall update direct from microsoft.
Cant remember what happened to Anniversery though that update failed due to low space Asus32gb.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -
It's because all updates take up space when they're installed. So the older a Windows version is, the more disk space it takes up.Unusually for Microsoft, the new Win10 version seems to take quite a bit less space on the system drive (once you've managed to install it and removed the windows.old folder it creates), so that is a small benefit....
Windows 7 installations can take up loads of space for instance as they've had lots of updates by now.
When you install a whole new Windows 10 version, it wipes the slate clean and the size shrinks compared to the version you're replacing. But it will grow again.0 -
Also, 32-bit (which you might still come across on a 32GB device) is a little smaller.grumpycrab wrote: »Its the whole lot so upto 4GB (for the ISO).

Accidentally cancelled update@87%..oops
At least when I re started update -disk space has a green tick -which it didn’t for previous big updates -as I run ios etc -I forgot names of 2 previous Win10updates that failed due to low disk space.
19%....let it update this afternoon and continue via ippad pro for forums.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -

Checked winver-currently 1703-creators update.
Continued with winupdates -stopped setup@10gig free space required.
Inserted exisitng 32gb scan disk usb 3 dirve (with laptop backup since repair)
Accepted usb drive-continuing with installing windows 10-hope this is latest fall update.
Maybe microsoft have learned to add usb drive support to later version updates.
Which didn’t happen on earlier win10 updates.
1709 Fall update is what I’m hoping for today.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -

(It doesn't help that '32GB' is nothing of the sort on mine - even allowing for the difference between 1000 and 1024 it's still smaller than advertised.)
All "drives", including old school floppies, computer hard drives, pen drives and SD cards and anything else that could be considered a "drive" including the 32Gb MMC flash cards you see in the cheaper laptops are sold and marketed as 32Gb unformatted capacity and they are labelled the SI way but the computers work in binary (1024k=1Mb, etc). So technically you do have 32Gb but it'll be something like 34 billion bytes minus the overheads, the bad block protection and what not. The process dates from the 1950s apparently.
The bigger a drive gets the more the discrepancy widens. A 500Gb drive displays and formats as 465Gb, a 1Tb 933Gb and a 2Tb is IIRC 1.7Tb.T he overheads in formatting them and the rounding issue is why you have less space than you think you have. For a 32Gb drive you should have a total storage space of around 29.8Gb but you'll also often find on the branded machines from new the drives will be split, often into two parts but sometimes three for the recovery/reset feature.0 -
It's deleted automatically 10 days after the update.
Thanks,,,my fall update didn’t work, my fault since re tried after I cancelled@87%
Windows initially shows green tic enough hdd space then later reverts to 10gig space required, excellent as it at least recognised my sdcandisk usb drive-then later started some re boots etc.
A few hours later trying various bios boot options win10 didn't recover from hdd recovery partition.
Finaly found via Asus type forum ‘disable secure boot’
Manged to run win10 recovery-wiped what little content I had on hdd inlcuding ms office.
At least it re installed 1703-creators update.
Not sure if I want to try 1709 fall update as it’s not available via Asus win updates -Asus site states if an update isn’t offered then maybe it isn’t working via your laptop.
I’ll re install ms office today which I suspect will use most of hdd space.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0
