Like many updates - if you have Win10 running on a tablet/notebook with limited hard drive capacity (32Gb on mine ) you can have problems .... the update will fail because of lack of drive space, even though in my case there is a second 32Gb storage card and a 500Gb drive in the detachable keyboard (so not the C drive,).

It is possible to work around it, but they don't make it easy. I have updated my notebook, took about 90mins from start to finish and it seems to be working smoothly, but haven't noticed any real benefits yet.

My other machines still running Win7 and Win8.1 .... both working perfectly, and much preferred to Win10 (which only really makes any sense on a touchscreen device).

Did it on a median laptop , mouse stopped working and hanging intermittently when on battery , could only get it working by hitting enter. Was fine on charger though ?

    Rolled back and working fine

I haven’t been able to install any of the big win10 updates, if it is possible, care to share your instructions.

You need to use a USB stick or external drive and the Windows Media Creation tool

I have tried the method of attaching a USB drive with some free space before, but my experience was that it didn't acknowledge the attached drive, so it didn't help. As mentioned those 32GB devices are a pain to upgrade.

My main advice for anyone planning to try the upgrade before the computer naturally updates itself would be to make sure you have a good backup image first.

The main problems are likely to be device drivers where the new Windows version tries to use the drivers in new and different ways which aren't compatible with the driver. This is especially an issue in old kit where the drivers aren't being updated.

For a few of these, Microsoft will be aware and stop the computer from updating itself automatically until the driver issues are fixed.

It isn't just the space - I used the media creation tool to create the setup files on the external drive (could also be a usb stick) and ran it from there. It is a pain, but it did work.
