Thanks very much for your replies to my query.
So, if I cancel my Office 365 subscription with GoDaddy and install a new, cheap Office package from an Amazon, or eBay seller, will my existing Office files, including Outlook email files, load up and work on the new package? Also, can I retain my current email addresses?
Sorry if I'm being really dense here, but like I said earlier, I find these current programme packages so much more difficult to understand and I so miss my old Win XP and simple MS Office.

I'm sure you can buy all sorts off Ebay. If you want to pursue that dodginess its your prerogative. You do understand what Volume Licence means?

Yes I know what a Volume Licence is.

I could be a system builder and buy a load of cheap licenses from Microsoft to install Windows and Office. Then I could decide to install Linux instead or not build the systems at all. I then sell the licences off on eBay...

Maybe the way they are being sold is not 100% in keeping with the terms, but the licenses will still be legit to the end user.

Beats paying £67 for "5 users" when you only want one.

Your Word docs, are still Word docs etc, so that's all OK. For Outlook, there may be some sort of migration, and you should certainly backup your mailbox before upgrading.

If you download one of these keys, how do you get the actual software?

Direct from Microsoft. For example ...
  • As almillar says, your docs will still be docs and will work on when you install standalone Office. Your Outlook mailbox will too but you will need to back it up and migrate it to your new installation of Outlook.

Have been following this thread with interest.

I use Office 2007 which I was thinking of updating with Office 2016.

My PC is a Lenova Yoga Pro 64-bit, (Windows 10) and wondered whether these programmes would be suitable for this machine.

    Thanks for information.
