  • Well I bought office 16 key on ebay for £3.50, worked and activated fine, using Outlook for receiving email.

Although I did think it possible this would be ok, Now I don't think this is a genuine office product key, managed to install it on a different pc as well and activated fine. The seller seems to have gone quiet no items for sale now and I can't even see the order details though no doubt paypal will take money. I think its possible that ebay have cottoned on to the seller.

I would imagine Microsoft will eventually cop on, though its possible to update everything so far, just wondering is it possible they would delete any of my email accounts that may be receiving email through office 16?

No, MS don't control your e-mail accounts, they can't delete them. They may be able to stop you using the product remotely, but you can just move your e-mail accounts to Thunderbird or another prog, or just log in in a browser...
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • Ah I forgot to mention it is Hotmail and Msn accounts.

    Thanks a lot for reply.

They keys will be genuine, it's just how they were sold that isn't.

Someone, probably in a far eastern land, probably bought a volume licence for use by system builders, etc. But for whatever reason has decided to sell the keys off instead.

Two years ago, I bought an almost new computer, with Windows 10 installed, an Office 365 Business Premium account and an email domain name, both from a company called GoDaddy. It was on offer at the time, but Office 365 now costs me £143.88/year and the domain name £9.99/year. At that time, I believed that GoDaddy was part of Microsoft.
After many years of running Windows XP, on an outdated computer with an old version of M/S Office I found the step up to Win 10/Office 365 to be extremely difficult to understand – something that still confuses me!
Being retired, I no longer run a business and really don’t want a professional copy of 365, in fact I only ever use Word, Excel and Outlook, I don’t need a domain name and I don’t want to have to pay almost £154/year for these services.
I’ve seen offers on eBay selling Office 365 Lifetime Licences for £6.95 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Microsoft-Office-365-Lifetime-License-5-Users-For-Windows-Mac-amp-Mobile-/362117245737? That look very tempting, but I’m unsure what I get and how these packages work. For example, will I be able to run my existing files on this new package and the seller also points out that my email will not work on the new package. I don’t understand why and the seller hasn’t answered a query message I sent him earlier.
If you can explain and reassure me, I’d be most grateful thanks.
    Thanks for your help.
    Cheers,
    Paul.

Forget Office 365, just buy a licence for Office 2016 or even 2013 or 2010, all still supported. Once installed and activated it will be good for a life time. Paying £150+ a year for a subscription for Office is just absurd.

Even better, download and use OpenOffice for free. Most of the bells and whistles in the recent versions of Office aren't needed by most folk just wanting to do normal documents and spreadsheets anyway.

Because they are giving you a log in to an account to use.
As said, forget 365 and get a standard office or go with the free alternatives.

Without getting into the merits of Office 365 vs Office 2016 or ealrier version it does not cost £143 or anything like it. Its about £95 from Microsoft and if you get it via Amazon £67 for a 5 user version and £46 for a one user version. I think the 5 user version is ok value. i know I could a freebie piece of software but my experience is that not only are (more advanced) functions missing but the performance is with some quite flaky. Use 4 of the 5 licences so around £16 per year, no aggravation with updates which are seamless or with performance, no stuttering and/or crash. Doing it cheaper or even for nothing is not always the best value.

You can buy volume licence keys for Office 2016 off eBay for just a few pounds. Download the ISO direct from Microsoft or another trusted source, and you have a copy of Office installed and that will never expire and won't cost you £16 or whatever a year.

I'm sure you can buy all sorts off Ebay. If you want to pursue that dodginess its your prerogative. You do understand what Volume Licence means?
