Unconfirmed reports of May agreeing to £53bn exit costs, better than I was expecting and hopefully now we can move on to the important stuff.0

Only if one side is trying to weasel out of paying. Of course if I'm wrong and the EU are charging the UK any money just because they can, then I'm happy to be corrected.0 -

You can look at this your way which is that the UK are trying to weasel out of paying or you can look at it another way that the EU are trying to extort money that they are not entitled to.
These so called negotiations have been going on for months but so far it seems that the EU have still not presented an itemised bill. When they do and when it is agreed by all sides, the UK will settle the bill. Why do you always try to pretend otherwise?0 -

Cogito, the EU sent an itemised bill with no numbers in May.
For the last few months the two sides have been arguing line by line about how much money they can agree on, on each line.
They appear to be getting close.
The "large" numbers thrown about by both sides is to prepare everyone for the final TOTAL number that will either be too high or too low but will not be a complete surprise to both sides of the argument. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

Interesting. Where did you hear that? Hopefully any payment we make will be phased and not lump sum, as the commitments do not all fall at the same time. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Maybe we could pay it in one simple payment of £350m a week, which sadly means we don't have £350m to fund the NHS instead.💙💛 💔0 -

So ...lets get the plan straight ....
Step 1 ..... Our rich sponsors move all their wealth offshore
Step 2 ..... We trash the value of the pound.
Step 3 ..... We leave the single market and customs Union so that British companies go bust
Step 4 .... We don't collect Tax from our wealthy sponsors when they bring money back
Step 5 ......Our wealthy sponsors buy up trashed UK companies at knock down prices
Step 6 ......We claim we dont collect enough tax to fund the NHS
Step 7 ..... We give contracts to run private healthcare to G4S et al
Step 8 ......We let them bring in cheap labour from Thailand etc
So we all sit back and get rich...
Well all apart from the ordinary people, but hey, who cares about them? It's a Tory government after all
ETA: The steps aren't my words (the bottom part is), but do express my feelings.💙💛 💔0 -

It was being reported on some no-name news sites last night. I'm still looking for something more official.
I'm pretty sure the payment schedule will be negotiated as part of this. It's about 7 years worth of contributions, so I can see it being phased over 5-7 years, in addition to whatever we need to pay for market access (£10-20bn for the interim period).
I dread to think what services the Tories will cut further funding from to pay for this.0 -

I'd love to see if people can argue against black and white text signed by the EU member states. The current way they are negotiating is not in accordance with the treaty.
There is no incentive for the EU to negotiate in accordance with the treaty.
All the EU has to do is sit back and just let talks collapse so that people will then demand we don't leave the EU.
Simples really.

Note: this is research, not a prediction.
'The collapse of the EU' is just one of 6 scenarios on how geopolitical changes are likely to influence German security policy.
Good try, Jock.
For a moment there, you almost convinced me the EU is about to collapse. :rotfl:Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0
