The reason for your "end of the Tory party grandstanding" is simple. Friday's speech has left the EU caught by their proverbial short'n'curlies. No need now, see?

How so? The EU is, again, baffled. But caught? You're going to need to walk me through that one?

It has been very clearly explained in earlier posts in this thread. Surely any one spending so much time on this thread would have seen it.

This recent DT article sums up the current situation for me:
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2018/03/01/eu-making-decent-brexit-impossible-britain-wont-tame-easily/
(Won’t tame as easily as Greece)
Basically, Switzerland has been getting away with a bit of cherry picking - but the harsh spotlight of Brexit means the EU is now clamping down hard on Switzerland so as to make an example.

This really is politics all the way (thanks, Barnier), and nothing to do with the future wellbeing of EU/British citizens.

Indulge me. I've read every post on this thread and I didn't see it.

It's a point of view I suppose. I can't see anything in the content of Mrs. May's speech that would lead to a sudden unity on the subject of Brexit.

The speech sums up the current position and the potential choices. Doesn't matter if anybody agrees or disagrees. The UK is leaving the EU. Unity is a personal choice. Simply complaining and not doing nothing is becoming a non option. As achieves nothing.

Watching Sky, looks as though 5 Star will be largest party, hung parliament according to exit polls, which as we all know can be wrong.

Maybe the Italian ones will signal the end of the EU?
There's always a next election for the Europhobes to look forward to. :)

No chance....even Five Star have moderated their rhetoric towards the EU. They can see which way the wind is blowing. The EU is collapsing meme is not providing cover for our brexiter loons anymore.

May's speech has added little of substance. Her five tests for any final agreement with Brussels...... ensuring the result of the EU referendum is respected; winning a lasting deal; protecting jobs and security; building a a modern, open, outward-looking country and strengthening the UK.....blah blah....is just stating the bleeding obvious. Never has a PM said so little of significance using so many words. She just thinks she can stay under the parapet like she did at the Home Office......use bland tautological language and muddle through. Surely we deserve better. Surely a person who is PM needs to believe in something and have at least some ideals rather than just getting through the day. Looking at her she scarcely seems able to do that.

Yes this was all known prior to May's speech. The question was what was in the speech that led Tory MPs to suddenly make a choice to unite?

Nothing would be my view. What did you hear?

Post 6876, have a look again. Might there be some truth in the infacts article
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

I am looking forward to Tuesday as Politico tells me.

    QUOTE
    Whatever happens, Barnier;s viewpoint will be brought into sharp focus tomorrow with the publication of the EUs draft negotiating guidelines for the post-Brexit trade deal. The Guardians Dan Boffey has a preview here which suggests they will be pretty vague but make ;clear that a whole range of proposals made by May in her Mansion House speech on Friday are to be rejected.;
    END QUOTE

This is the link to a Guardian story about the document.

Alistair Campbell says she tried to blind us with science. Iain Dale says she gave too much detail.
