Brexit, the economy and house prices part 5

So just because you do that doesn't mean that anyone else does it. Does it?
I won't set foot in a Wetherspoons because of their Brexit lies.
To be fair about it though, it's not just Tim Martin I boycott, we also just last week chose not to renew a meaningful services contract from an ardently pro-Brexit (and vocal about it) local supplier.
Either he was ignorant enough to not understand how bad Brexit will be for so many businesses like ours, or he was arrogant enough not to care.
Either way his continued harping on about it showed poor judgement - and it's cost him dearly.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

We can all play that game. I think I'll refuse to pay my taxes because Cameron and Osborne lied to me about how a vote for brexit would cause an immediate and profound recession and massive tax hikes.0 -
I was wondering how long it would take, but today Jacob Rees-Mogg has clearly had enough and moved into attack mode.

you're probably on my ignore list.0 -
I can't be the only one chuckling to myself at the hypocrisy shown by those two.
Allegedly refusing to use companies because the owners of these companies are so vocal about their beliefs, and then themselves verbalising their own beliefs on a public forum.

LOL. I happen to have been directly involved in helping to ban the testing of cosmetics and ingredients - the legislation came in in 1998!
Interesting that you should say that.
Because it's yet another example of where the UK introduced beneficial legislation before the EU who incidentally did not ban such testing until over ten years later, in 2009 but didn't take effect across the EU until 2013.Testing cosmetic products and their ingredients on animals was banned in the UK in 1998 and across the EU in 2013.0 -

Finally you and I can agree that we need the skilled workers from these countries more than those countries need us.
We need their skills, they rarely need ours and they don’t really need Britains products.
IMO only.
I think debates on mass migration too often centre around fruit and veg and toilets.
That, to me, totally undersells the idea of migration.
I think you need as a society, a clear idea of what you want...and then find the type of people who will build that society.
I dont see why we can't aspire to attract the best. In the future, wealthy Asian and African entrpreneurs and specialists could choose to work part of the time here; part of the time back home; and the rest as holiday.
They won't want to do that if we turn UK plc into a cheap looking sweat shop. FOM encourages the employer to source from a market big enough, that they can choose to be lazy in automation, and instead treat casual labour like a cheap commodity. I know migrant workers living in a dorm for goodness sake. It's almost Victorian in values.0 -
I can get a flight the same day with any materials I need, my co-worker needs at least 3 weeks to get a visa sorted, and would need to send any materials via customs.
Never required a visit to travel around Europe. FOM has nothing to do with travel per se. More the ability to work, reside and claim benefits.0 -

Nothing stopping them doing that today.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Pretty sure you try and minimise the money you hand over to people you don't like. Same here.
Yep.
I can't possibly know what every supplier thinks about Brexit unless they choose to volunteer that information.
But for a supplier that is selling into a segment of the economy that's already being hit hard by Brexitary inflation with more damage to come from the inevitable disruptions, and bragging about their support for Brexit, shows an astonishing lack of awareness.
It just really damages their credibility - and loss of business is the result.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
