Define 'huge' in this context? 10%? 20%? 30%? More?

According to EU Budget Commissioner Gunther Oettinger, around €15bn. That's based on current spending and doesn't include whatever fancy schemes they might think of next.

The UK's departure immediately results in a €9 billion hole. Based on the last EU budget of €145. That's an immediate 6.2%.

Whilst a 6% income drop would suck; is that really huge? The eu should be able to cope pretty easily.

The EU has no money though. Which of the sovereign states is going to ask it's electorate to vote for a tax increase. In order to fund the shortfall.

I guess it depends how they manage the reduction. The logical way would be to share the pain across all programmes, rather than closing or radically cutting back on a couple of programmes which would hurt one or more countries or sectors unduly. However the former would necessarily require a cut in pay or staffing, which would be unpopular internally.

I was under the impression that May had agreed the budget to 2021 as part of the divorce, in which case the likes of Juncker et al will be long departed and it will be somebody else's problem.

Surely you should be discussing what Britain will be spending this money on. Why would you care about the EU.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Why does the UK need to hit back with anything?
We already have many within the EU running around like headless chickens wondering how they're going to balance their next budget - not easy when President Juncker ;) has said he wants to see a substantial increase " to pursue EU policies and fund them adequately".

Thankfully Britains chickens are planning as we speak what they will be spending the money on. Do you have any suggestions for them?

It is really a huge amount of money for the UK. Every British Citizen might get an extra Christmas bonus.
Which Christmas will that be I wonder!

There are so many posters, not you, who keep on and on and on about the EU. Surely that Now does not matter as Britain is leaving soon.
Macron has made it clear what possible deals are available. I don’t think it can be clearer. Perhaps they should listen to him saying what is possible on the Marr show this morning.
After months of reading here that Barnier is getting his orders from Germany and/or FRANCE Here we have the French President actually telling Britain to our face but is any Brexiter listening?

Does it matter if I or any remainer is listening? I just ask the questions. It's up to Brexiters to supply the answers in a way that works for the country. Surely we can both agree on that.
