Brexit, the economy and house prices part 5

I agree, the decisions on Brexit need informed opinion and referendums are not the best way to decide such questions. Let Parliament decide on the evidence.
I think if it required a referendum to decide whether we entered the EEC, it’s wholly appropriate to hold another one in order decide whether to leave the EU.
Ironically, if over the years we’d held a referendum every time we’d ceded some sovereignty like other countries did, we might still be staying. The idea that the electorate were being railroaded into a federal Europe festered for years, no surprise for me that when a vote did materialise, we voted out.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

Are you claiming better medical knowledge that that nurse?
Without going into detail (which I understand is discouraged in these forums anyway as is providing medical advice, and rightly so) there can be many reasons for a cough lasting for this long and - although it may indeed be worrying if you're the one experiencing a cough - if you have been seen by a medical professional of which a practice nurse is one such example and been informed that as yet there is no need for "getting any tests", unless you have a pretty good reason for being unhappy with the advice of this professional you should heed that advice.
No doubt this workmate will have been advised that if the symptoms do not ease or disappear within X period of time he should return to the surgery.
To take this slightly back towards Brexit, house prices and the economy, well improved British productivity is being cited ad nauseum as the only way to compete in our new more global situation. And having to take half days off just to queue for a few minutes access to the NHS, to be told to come back later, is not the way towards improving productivity.0 -
I'm claiming that a GP has better knowledge than a nurse, but nice try at deviation!

Suggesting that a GP would know better than an experienced practice nurse about such a symptom as a cough only further displays your lack of knowledge on the subject.
Read some of the earlier posts about wasting GP's time, then decide which is more economical between a GP and a practice nurse.
When you've done those maybe consider if it isn't maybe improving productivity by avoiding unnecessary consultation time and possibly other resources too.
No wonder so much of a GP's time is in effect wasted and so many people have difficulty getting an appointment..0 -

The fact that they are paid (incredibly well) specifically to be better informed about all aspects of what they're meant to make decisions on? It's not as if we're letting 650 random people make decisions, it's 650 people for whom their entire job is supposed to be knowing that sort of stuff.0 -

No it's not. Majority now study politics and economics. Devoid of real life experience. Never run a hospital ward, run a construction project, skippered a fishing boat, worked in the field of finance in any capacity, nor run their own business.
Requires people to come together from very many different fields with years of knowledge and experience.
Hardly surprising that people are disenchanted with politicians in general. As aren't representative of the electorate. A class to themselves. .0 -

Yup, we're back on the NHS again. I'm beginning to wonder why the Brexit thread seems to be a magnet for the topic of the UK health service.0 -
Maybe one perpetrated by lazy MPs and the Daily Mail who don't want to address the root causes affecting the NHS. What's the proof?
As with any Government Department. Under the Freedom of Information Act the public has the right to know. Journalists can submit questions that have to be answered, It's politicians and the misinformed that spread the myths.0 -

There's plenty of freely accessible data that shows how the NHS performs compared to other health services. Nobody is much interested - they ought to rename it NHS United and set up a fan club. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
