Am I correct in thinking that this agreement means that everyone born in N Ireland will remain an EU citizen?

Probably way too early to make that extrapolation. This was a can being kicked down the street exercise. It will be interesting to see however how the UK deals with UK born EU passport holders in Ulster.

The joint report is linked in post 2339.

Only skimmed it but, unless it's covered elsewhere, NI residents remain EU citizens only if they choose Irish over British citizenship.

Actually anyone born in NI can choose both citizenships it isn't a case of having one over the other, something I may be taking advantage of in the near future.

Both Ireland and the UK allow dual citizenship for nationals so that hasn't been an issue up until now.

Yes, you need the Irish citizenship.

I saw a news report earlier saying anyone born in NI could retain EU citizenship but, as far as I can see, it doesn't say that in the report.

    Haven't read it yet though.

Ok, sorry I had missed that, will need to keep an eye on it, I won't be looking at amending my citizenship status until freedom of movement goes away anyway, nothing to be gained until then as obviously getting an Irish passport isn't free!

They've declared that sufficient progress has been made on the Irish border and, looking at the joint report, it looks as though they've applied a low barrier when compared to citizens rights and the financial settlement.

Every single stakeholder should be looking at the Irish border and asking 'hang on; how is that deliverable?' It's a fudge to get things moving.

So all in all, the original position of the UK wanting to deal with trade at the same time as other issues appears to where we are standing today.

Wooly generalisations on the divorce bill, border and citizens rights. Wouldn’t all this have been much easier if the UK view had been accepted...

Six months wasted thanks to the EU in my book.

Well at least the 'divorce bill' (at £35Bn -39Bn) is less than many 'experts' thought it would be.

It sounds as though the larger figure could have been previously leaked to make this figure more palatable. That’d be a typical politician tactic.

    Page 11, clause 68
    68. The financial settlement will be drawn up and paid in euro.
So it might well be £50bn.;)
Anyway, still confident about WTO? :)
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

That is only possible in the mind of a Little Englander.

For the rest of us that understand the need to deal internationally, we know it would never happen like that.
Ah, is this the POV of the most deluded of remainers?
Because "the rest of us that understand the need to deal internationally" obviously realise that all trade between the EU and the UK would cease were no deal to be finalised, don't they?
Or maybe because these deluded remainers honestly believe that the EU doesn't really need the UK's cash? Nope, not interested one bit in money, the EU.

All this with the EU posturing, demands and deadlines is for what then? Barnier & gang's jollies?
No, it's all about money for the EU and nothing else. If anybody thinks that those in power in the EU are interested in "their" citizens or anything else they really ought to be asking why they aren't paying heed to these citizens across their "union".

For example taking Hungary, Poland & the Czechs to court for not taking refugees - when the refugees themselves don't even want to go there.

Or inspiring 45,000 Catalonians to travel to Brussels so that they could show their criticism of the EU in a mass demonstration.

    "Little Englanders"?
Delusional but typically derogatory remainer terminology.
It is very obviously the EU that are the protectionist inward-looking ones.
Schulz, Juncker and their federalist views make that patently obvious.

Eight year role for the ECJ. May can only sell this phase of the talks as a victory if nobody reads the joint report.

From my understanding the ECJ will only have a role if are courts request it and only on EU citizens rights...
