Posting on the main board with an end date of E: 31/12
Last time this was discussed, we came up with the following guidance which seems to have served us well, (Although if it's being discussed again, maybe not?)

Monthly competitions - posted on main with the end of the month as their end date. Reposted each month.

Weekly competitions- Posted on main with the end of each draw as their end date. Reposted weekly as a new thread with new end date as date of next draw.

Daily competitions. Posted with the overall end date, but here's the difference - a link then put on the thread in regs so that end-daters and other non-"As posted" compers can check it regularly so they don't miss out. The thread is then bumped daily if there's a new answer.
Just like the advents which worked so well :)

    Enter once / ongoing
competions Posted with 31/12 and then put in the ongoing thread in Regs.

So, apart from the daily mags, CTW and RC / Gleam, the only threads we need in regs are Ongoing & Daily - or am I missing something?

    If it ain't broke....

ETA - I can understand a different code for ongoing as End of month / year could get messy!
Worse things will have happened in the world today...

    4) With weekly and monthly comps, TBH, I'm not sure which is the best system. It is probably easiest for those posting if they post once and the thread is bumped for new comps. But this doesn't work well for end-daters. So it might be worth posting each new comp separately? Would it work if we asked posters to include "(Weekly)" or "(Monthly)" in the title? This way end-daters could find them by using search? I liked the Advent system of using "A" instead of "E" in the title and quite like the idea of using "W" for weekly, and "M" for monthly, but not if it would cause problems for the BGs.

    5) All opinions are welcome and valid.

Search is quite ineffective and as weekly and monthly are supposed to be posted afresh each time all that needs to happen is for that to take place - Doesn't need to be the poster of a first week/month that posts any subsequent ones and they are unlikely to be missed.
I did think perhaps for weekly the first week could get it's own post with end-date then the rest done (posted at the same time) as one post with the final date - that gives end-daters the chance to it see while all the weeks are open and up to them if they are interested to enter subsequent weeks.
I think we should start over, open another discussion, probably leading to a poll

I wonder how the majority use the board in the first place - it's clear from the number of thanks on posts in regulars compared to those on the main board that the majority don't use regulars and the same almost certainly goes for the chat corner. But do they follow the guide suggestion to enter as added, are they - despite the advice not to - end-daters or even worse searchers?

I like it, most of it is what's supposed to happen already and it maximises exposure for everybody. As for the ongoing you could pick an end-date in the middle of a month when it's quieter anyway (perhaps have a fairly short date on the first one to get the highest exposure then maybe post every 3, 4, or 6 months, copy and paste does not take much effort)

Didn't realise this was over 3 years old, a thread I put on main to highlight the click to wins (the number of entry routes back then wasn't too bad), perhaps something like this for ongoing

I think this is all that is needed, but perhaps then rename the regular competitions board to something like 'Useful Lists of regular comps' This should stop anyone posting comps in there.

Then perhaps a BG could move anything other than lists to game over.

Most of that sounds fine to me too. Other than, I don't see why an end date of 31/12 beats one of 00/00 for on-going comps. With 31/12 it means that they will all expire at midnight on new year's eve and go into game over. With an end date of 00/00 they won't expire at all (or am I wrong about that?) Isn't that more appropriate for on-going comps? And when tackling bumping, updating or reposting them, they would be easy to distinguish from the comps that actually do end on 31/12. It would also mean nobody would be obliged to spend time on new year's day working on them.

I take the point about search not always working well.

I think that the Honeybuns weekly comp proves that the majority don't use the sub-boards, as when it was posted only on Regular board and not on the main board at all, it got maybe 30 likes a week. Since it has moved to the main board, it now gets over 150 likes a week. Same competition, just in a different place.

How about a vote/poll in each of the sub-boards, that way the people that do actually use those threads would see the discussion?

    WEEKLIES

Since this thread first started, efforts have been made to tidy up the regs a bit - especially to move the weeklies to the main board to be posted each week (eg. Honeybuns). There are now only 4 weekly comps on regs:-

    1) El Puerto Restaurant, Bristol (FB) - Still running each Friday.
If somebody would volunteer to post this each Friday on main then that would be great and we can send the old one to GO.

    2) Hi-Tec Infinity Game This appears to be defunct
I suggest this is moved to GO.

    3) People Newspaper Joke of the Week
I don't know if this is still running - does anybody read The People and can have a look in the paper?

    4) Inside Soap soapbox letters
I don't know if this is still running - ness13 posts the Inside Soap puzzles and could be asked about this. Details of this comp could even be added to the Inside Soap puzzle post each week.

    5) One or two others on regs that are labelled weekly are mislabelled and should be labelled as daily or onceonly.

    6) The WEEKLY INDEX is no longer updated and should be moved to GO.

    7) I believe the only live non-ongoing comp in the weekly index is the TRY OF THE WEEK comp. There is no reason why this can't be posted each time it runs (it doesn't run every week anyway).

Deal with these and that is weeklies sorted. Going forward, anybody posting a new weekly competition with an end date that is not just for the current week can be asked to change it and repost each week.

The thread doesn't have to be 31/12 any date would do. It would maximise exposure to post the first with a relatively short date then after that maybe every 3, 4 or 6 months (even 12 months) apart - any new ones would simply be added to the existing thread and it's a simple job to copy/paste for the next thread and I think they are nearly all "lottery" style competitions and there are not often many new ones to add anyway (assumes all ongoings are on one thread and not one for each)

This is the first ever mention of A SINGLE THREAD for ongoing comps. I am sure everyone else is assuming each comp would have its own thread.

I am pretty sure a single thread would cause numerous problems.

PS. All regulars have been moved to the main board. Regulars just contains the indexes.

After years of trying to sort the Regs board issues, l think the only way to see if something will work is to try it :) If it doesn't we can put it back, or tweak it :)
