    This is so true!

Feeling cautiously optimistic that I'm feeling less rubbish today. Although Stinky's first walk of the day wasn't great (and Visible is telling me I need to take it easy and like yesterday, I'm burning through my pace points faster than usual with my HR spiking more than usual and only sleeping putting me in my rest zone) so I need to take it easy still if I want to get out of the crash anytime soon. They can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

As there's no work today, I'm hoping I can do some pilates (just gentle exercises for mobilisation), deal with the black beans soaked overnight, cook some BNS for Stinky's lick mats and kongs so I can keep them stocked up - particularly important as I'm putting coconut oil on his pads and need to distract him with a kong to stop him licking it off, wash dog bedding and towels endlessly, and soak some pinto beans to cook tonight. Hopefully all manageable as it's just pottering.

Stinky will need walks, but hopefully we can do several short ones again today without too many issues. It's a faff because I'm having to wash his paws (clearly torture) after every walk, use hibiscrub twice a day, put steroid spray on once a day, and coconut oil and paw balm at every opportunity. I have no clue why his pads are so dry, but apparently that may be part of the reason why he's developed the cyst between his toes.

WattyDog would hate to be tortured with a paw wash despite also going in every bit of dirty water he can find. Is there something you could set up that Stinky could walk through on the way back from a walk - like for example a paddling pool that would rinse his paws?? Thinking of those foot bath things that we used to have to go through at the swimming pool? Also is the hibiscrub drying the pads?

I had another idea for Stinky. WattyDog has a big solid ball that is meant for horses to push about and when he was fully mobile he would play for ages pushing it around the garden until I firmly took it away because he was getting too cross with it for the ball not doing as it was told. Because it was solid he could not pick it up (hence getting cross) and he would push and chase after it for ages. When I couldn't walk him for any reason I would give him the ball and he would amuse himself with it for ages (WattyDog does not usually play with anything). The ball was originally bought for Most Handsome but WattyDog loves it and it used to help when walk time was short for any reason.

Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Thanks Watty! Stinky flattens his ears and looks abused when I wash his feet! The hibiscrub may be drying, but that's only used on the cyst twice a day. I do wonder whether he has hyperkeratosis, but I'll just have to keep an eye on it. The web with the cyst is between his outer toe, and the fused middle toe which is missing a nail. This means he can't grip with what would have been the second toe, and he also doesn't have the web between the middle two toes, so there's always going to be more pressure on that outer web. And he does tend to avoid sitting with that foot on the floor, and tends to sit on one hip - I suspect he finds it hard to get that food flat on the ground when sitting, so I'm going to have to keep an eye on it as it may cause problems in the log term.

Stinky has lots of toys inside. He won't go outside without me - he just sits and stares at me through the door rather than playing (doesn't even bother checking the flowerbeds for cat poo…). If I'm out there or I leave the door open he'll happily potter about and play with sticks. But it's far too cold and wet to leave the door open at the moment. This is another reason I need to get the garage conversion done and move him out of the kitchen into the utility room - hopefully it'll mean fewer sticks being shredded in the kitchen!

Stinky has had a trip out to bring in kindling and move logs, and a foot wash followed by hibiscrub on his cyst. I've dealt with the black beans, sorted out a BNS for kongs etc (currently cooling in the IP inner pot), washed up cat and dog bowls, shoved three lots of dog bedding/towels through the WM and two through the dryer (there was lots of solar earlier - sun has now gone in, but as the battery is full I may be able to get the rest done as the big bed takes two loads), put pinto beans and chickpeas in to soak, taken Stinky for another walk, had coffee with an orange, almonds and 100% dark choc, put neem oil on my hair, washed Stinky's feet, fed the cats, massaged Stinky's feet and given him a kong to distract him from the coconut oil, washed my hair, made salad, eaten salad. Oh, and run the septic tank pump a couple of times (assuming it's still working!).

Next stop is a lie down with a book (and maybe a cat) before having coffee and more fruit, then maybe another walk for Stinky before mixing some BNS, banana, and yogurt up for kongs.

It seems even a weekend doing nothing includes getting quite a bit done… and clearly most if it revolves around Stinky. Would anyone like a well-behaved and very trainable labrador?
