I would also volunteer to help if I was closer.
We have wet UFH throughout the house we don't get the problem EH described but I know it well from a place I worked many moons ago. The electric UFH had been set too hot, so it only came on for shorter periods of time to keep the room at the set temperature, instead of being set to lower temperature but on for more of the day.
I think of UFH as more of a tortoise slow and steady to get to the desired temperature. As apposed to other forms of heating which are more like a hare quickly getting to temperature and then resting, then blasting off again.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Doesn't UFH that is too hot lead to swollen ankles in those of us that are prone to them?2

My colleagues used to complain of this from the work location mentioned earlier.badmemory said:Doesn't UFH that is too hot lead to swollen ankles in those of us that are prone to them?Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Cats aren't being very cuddly at the moment, but you can try... Stinky, however is more than happy to oblige. So just need another 9 volunteers to sign up...
New bit of trellis went up yesterday. We've worked out where posts are going to go round the patio, after which I'll measure up for wire and decide whether to use tensioners or not. I do need to get the obelisks out, but they should come out quite easily!
Am way behind on laundry, but the weather is miserable and electricity expensive, and I don't want it hanging round the house getting in the way of the cleaner. However, I think I'll put a load on to finish when the cleaner leaves (dog towels, which can go on the airer in the utility room) and see what the battery looks like after that and decide on the next load. I need to clear the backlog as I still have two beds to strip and remake before I can have visitors.
Replaced the water filter - took about 5 minutes, so why I put it off I have no idea. Also set the DW on a cleaning cycle and it's had another tantrum - fed up with this, but it's in a really awkward place for getting in and out. I think it probably needs the inlet/outlet checking and the seals checking/replacing (it's giving an error code that suggests the anti-flood system has been triggered). So I need to decide whether to keep ignoring it or get someone in to diagnose and either repair or swap it for the one in the garage. I'll check the filters/impeller first, as last time it was a bit of chicken bone that was the problem!6 -
DW still misbehaving, so that needs a decision - do I get the repair guy out or swap it over with the help of the gardener/handyman myself next week? I suspect the repair guy makes more sense.Gardener came today, so last lot of tie back hooks are up (need new tie backs as the ones I have really don’t go). Hall blind is up, and there’s a hook on the back of the back bedroom door as well as some hooks up in the walk-in wardrobe. The shrubs at the back have also been given a major haircut. Drain man has been again, as having said he couldn’t see an issue, I sent him a video and told him I was worried the pump motor would burn out. He has apologised and thinks he may have set it up wrong. So fingers crossed it now behaves and switches off when the chamber is empty! He also said that the ditch opposite me is badly polluted (neighbours with treatment plants) and needs dealing with… nothing i didn’t know, but I think I’ll look up how to report it to the environment agency. I know the neighbours also complain about it.So a list for the weekend (which will look like one of Cheery’s ‘before breakfast’ lists…
- Pay for trellis work
- Pay gardener
- Chop up BNS and pressure cook in IP
- Shove a load of laundry in the machine

- Heat pump info to plumber
- Book club book
- Look at building control website

Late to offer but WattyDog and I on our way. (Happy to gift Stinky the trip inducing dog treats out of sight).
I have given up with the UFH here. For some reason it costs a fortune to run and although it heats the down stairs beautifully it is very expensive. And now given WattyDogs issues I've thrown rugs on part of it anyway so just leave it off. The pump has probably ceased now but I'm not sure I'll run it again anyway.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!1 -
Only eight more volunteers needed then... Stinky is more than happy to act as a waste-disposal unit!
UFH works if left on long and low. If you have a newish gas boiler you should be able to run it relatively efficiently by dropping the flow temperature on the boiler and setting the heating to run pretty much all day. It takes effort to heat it up, not so much to maintain it. I've been fiddling with mine and am currently running the oil VERY inefficiently in order to prove to myself that it is possible to keep this house warm!
So far I've put a white wash on (it should be done soon, and as there is a lot of solar generation it's a toss-up between sticking it in the TD or on the line) and cooked a BNS, plus been for a nice long walk with a neighbour, checked the septic tank pump (seems to be working properly at last!), opened all the windows to get some fresh air in, removed an outdoor stick from Stinky as he was shredding it on the sitting room rug, and washed up the cat feeders (much to their disgust, apparently I should have been refilling them). And I've had coffee and a very delicious red grapefruit while paying a couple of bills and reporting some water pollution . So now need to drag myself off the sofa and out into the garden to make the most of the sunshine!1 -
I get a similar reaction here when I clean the cat food tray! I try and do it when she’s asleep or out 😉
I would volunteer but I suspect I am a looooong way away from you … 🤔 You know how people have painting parties to start new house decorating … could you do similar for a radiator balancing party?? 😉😊
