Managed to get three machine loads of washing out on the line after it rained this mornng.
DH suggested he took me out for lunch for a change :j suggested Harry Ramsden's as we had not been there for at least a couple of years - after a couple of wrong turns we eventually found the place - wish we hadn't!
Can only assume the "money people " were making decisions instead of chefs or people with any pride in their product.
Alarm bells went off when I saw the "ordinary fish" was actually coley or pollack and you had to order cod or haddock differently - bread and butter was "extra" as was "tea".
When it arrived it looked like "oven ready stuff" that you buy in cardboard and was not a proper fish shape and the chips were about a third scraps that any self respecting place would not have dished up as a takeaway!
Surprisingly we did not fancy dessert and could not get out of there quickly enough to get home and have some tea to wash away the taste!
DH told me later that he had heard someone say how bad the place has become but did not believe it - we do now!
Have reassured DH that I do appreciate the thought and that it was a nice idea.
Made spicy turkey with broccoli, carrots and leeks and a baked potato for tea which everyone enjoyed and rescued washing before it started to rain again .
Dishwasher is dealing with the pots and pans so having some time on here."This site is addictive!"

Just read your story about your trip to Harry Ramsden's. I've never understood why they were so popular in the first place.
We took a party of pensioners to the one in Liverpool some years ago. I found the fish to be greasy (then discovered it was done in dripping), the chips were none too crisp and the peas were charged as an extra (at 55p) - how disgusting! Just don't know how they ever got their reputation for quality in the first place!!
My home-made soup came out great - still not sure whether it was a chunky vegetable soup, a vegetable stew or a vegetable casserole! Would love to know if someone could explain the differences to me please.
It consisted of 1 leek sliced, four carrots, 1 parsnip, 2 onions (one red and one ordinary), half a swede, tin of chopped tomatoes, dried mixed herbs, chicken cube and a veg cube dissolved in half a pint of water, a huge clump of gardens peas (out of freezer bag) and then found a small tin of butter beans that was added about half an hour before serving. It was cooked all day in the SC and served with crusty bread - gave four huge portions!
OH went shopping today and managed to come back with something useful this time - a 'stew pack' and a great big ham shank. I'll do something with that on Friday and probably turn the stock into soup for over the weekend! He's beginning to get used to this OS stuff now. I'm also hoping that all my recipes are 'healthy' - so far I've never even browned the meat or sauteed the veggies before putting in the SC - so definitely no added fat of any kind!
I'm shattered now and looking forward to my bed - so nitey nite to anybody who comes after me!0
