All was fine at the GP appt- he couldn't feel anything unusual structurally, so I've got a prescription to pick up if/when the pain recurs and a blood test next week to rule out any nasties.

Kitty has been very affectionate although he does have an obsession with tipping anything with liquid in it over (I've switched to bottles to keep drinks in). He's found lots of spots around the house to snooze in and generally seems quite calm. It'll be a shame to hand him back on Saturday, he's very good company. He's much more polite and mild-mannered than bf's cat who will happily beat you up occasionally apropos of nothing to keep you in line.

Last day of work today then I'm on annual leave. Cannot wait! Refund has come through for the hotel, just waiting on trains. Net loss for that trip is £49, could be worse. Shame the weather isn't looking too clever for next week, although we've got things planned where a bit of rain won't spoil it.
  • Shame you're not up here, my local places have stacks of Preloved kitties wanting comfy sofa's.

    Enjoy your break!

Had a very nice break with a few trips out. I've managed to put away my usual savings plus the money I saved from the trip which came to a very cool £870 for October :o . I'm going to have to get some roof work done next spring as there's still a leak in the spare room. Hopefully won't be a full replacement, but I'll wait for the survey.

I've ordered garlic, raspberries, strawberry and thai hot chilli seeds to continue my gardening adventures. Garlic should be here soon (autumn planting variety) and I'm expecting the raspberries later in the year.
  • Wow, that's impressive!

Hopefully the roof can get patched.

Organic shop garlic can be grown. You'll enjoy picking the fruit and immediately eating it.

    Thanks :)

Garlic has been planted, lovely big cloves, too. I've picked up plant supports in anticipation of the raspberries and I've cleaned all my pots from the last season. I need to get round to planting some more herbs.

After doing some overtime and switching banks to get a bonus, I've managed to save a whopping £850 this month. That makes my emergency fund 67% done :) It's on track to be complete by the spring.

Your garden is coming along.  Set aside 30 minutes the weekend to get your herbs in, next year you'll be thankful.

    Phenomenal saving this month!

Ugh, ended up calling out a roofer for a survey as the leak is getting worse and I don't want to leave it much longer. He recommended a new roof over patching it as you can see where it's been patched previously and it'd be likely that I'd end up getting it patched multiple times over the years and could cost more than the replacement long term. He gave me a quote and now I feel rather sick. Over 6k. I've got two more roofers lined up to give me their opinion and quotes this week.

On one hand I appreciate the roof is old and falling to bits in recent storms and it could really do with a full replacement. On the other hand, I'm planning to move in a few years time and I'm not sure it's a good investment? That being said, it's maintenance, not an investment. Very different replacing a roof over redoing a functional bathroom. A new roof would also be a selling point along with the rewire I had done.

Oh well, perils of buying an old house. I can use my savings to replace it, so I wouldn't need to borrow, but it does set me back on my savings somewhat. I suppose that's what they're there for! I'll see what the other quotes are like.
