Morning all
Sorry been a bit MIA. My mood hasn't been great, and this weekend the children have been spectacularly foul - grumpy, argumentative, forgetting their manners - so I've imposed a total screen ban today.
DH went out last night & has kipped at a mates (Pre-arranged), so he will return at some point. No doubt hungover and useless as a chocolate fire guard.
Can you tell I'm feeling moody and put upon :rotfl:MFW

Thanks for that Bossy - I am going to the docs tomorrow so I might mention it there; I really [STRIKE]desperately need[/STRIKE] want to go back on HRT, which I stopped in a panic last December.
The hot flushes are stopping me in my tracks which is no good at work.

Good morning all, sorry I've been MIA for the past couple of days. Not sure where Friday went, but yesterday was spent either taxi driving for DD or sorting out (the last pile of) apples. They may still become chutney, but I am quite sure that we can't get through the number of jars that I must have stashed away by now.
(Hugs) to those who need them, especially Natty, Valli, YL and ATB.
HB - I like the laundry bill idea, and 1 pair of trousers for her stay?? Who is she kidding? And I do believe that you have perfectly servicable shops nearby....
Jojo - Bakewell Tart?? A man after my own heart!
Yay for Mr Pigpen. Fingers and everything crossed for next week.
Must dash and get DD from her sleepover. Another 30 mile round trip. Then it will be the ironing pile to tackle, as DH came home from working away and dumped all his shirts. Beef casserole to throw into the sc, and maybe, just maybe, the bathroom will get cleaned. But let's not get carried away.

Try not to think of them as hot flushes, Valli, more of a power surge

Just shove an invoice under the door each week for use of washing facilities and catering. Service wash prices per item should do, plus £9.50 for a fully cooked a la carte meal. At worst, she'll go somewhere else. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, by the sounds of it.
I totally agree; and I wouldn't be as nice as you to begin with.
It's a good job I have canine guests, not human ones. The worst I've had to deal with thus far is a demand for a game of ball at midnight (which was firmly refused).
Valli I simply can't imagine how it is for you, hun; I wish I could make it better for you, I hate to see friends hurting so.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I'm so sorry about upcoming anniversaries that are hard of you both, Valli and Bossy. (((Hugs))) all round, and enjoy Deacon Blue. I found sage tea helped massively with hot flushes and nightsweats, although it tasted vile. (((Hugs))) too for ATB and I think I forgot to say (((hugs))) to you too, Natty when I read your post about Dave's diagnosis.
Thank you everyone for being so kind and patient about my lodgery rant particularly you, Jojo for your very practical suggestions. It's all very much appreciated. I take people mostly pretty short-term but the actors amongst them can be a just a tad highly strung a few days before a new production opens. From the fact that I had four phone calls from this woman before she arrived I knew she'd be either a bit of a nightmare - or a complete nightmare. If anyone still has an attack of the vapours, she'd the one of them. She'll be leaving next Sunday so unlike you with your stinky permanent lodger, all I have to do is bite my lip - which as I get older and more assertive becomes very much harder.
We usually invite lodgers who are here on Sunday evening to join us for a roast (whoopsied beef rump tonight) but as you can imagine this week that won't be happening. I wish people who insist on pushing and overstepping boundaries realised that options disappear as a direct result.
There will be comments, and I've already told OH what two of them will be (he thinks I'm a witch when I do this). For what it's worth, we are primed for, 'Doesn't that look/smell delicious' and 'I really miss home cooking/my kitchen when I'm away.'
The hard work with lodgers and a high turnover isn't just keeping that area of the house in tiptop condition and the rest pretty smart, it's putting up with their delicate egos. I think I might just put the rates up another £20 for people who haven't stayed here before because I probably don't charge enough anyway, and that would more than cover the cost of the occasional load of washing and the concomitant hassle.
Also, Jojo, if she was stinky I'm afraid your mattress is going to need a very hefty dose of bicarb of soda both sides, and the carpet could probably do with it too. Sweep most of it up with a dustpan and brush before you vacuum the rest of the residue or you'll burn the vacuum's motor out if you've doused it heavily enough, as I've learned to my cost - you can use it more than once anyway. It was a cheap and cheerful vacuum, but that particular lodger I wouldn't take back again, or the ones that seem to use half a bottle of aftershave daily rather than shower. *eeeuuuwww*
I will now admit that this year, for the very first time since starting letting rooms, that I have turned away several bookings because from experience I had a strong feeling that they were going to be exceedingly hard work. Most of the people who come and stay are absolutely lovely and have added a huge positive amount to our lives, and I don't mean in a monetary way. We've made really wonderful friends, shared fantastic fun and love doing what I/we do, but just occasionally, very, very occasionally ....Jojo_the_Tightfisted wrote: »And a Bakewell Tart.
Nice try, Himself, nice try.
Love it!
Thanks to spectacularly brilliant advice regarding minutes, they're not finished but I've managed to reduce several pages to several sentences; first draft will be done by the end of the day. I can then go back to doing things I want to do, as opposed to filling up all my time with things I think or feel I should be doing. That's got to stop.Better is good enough.0 -

Mr LW has just come back from the farmers market, so I can now crack on and make a quiche (which I really, really don't feel like doing, but needs must and all that).
The doglets have had a good old "woof" at him; but they're only doing their job - telling me that there's someone coming in the front door.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
And I too, know a lovely witch or too, Lamewolf. Didn't say it was a bad thing, being one, did I?!! OH is just a tad wary of them and rather respecful. Good thing too.
He's settling down to make two batches of marmalade today while I tackle the dreaded minutes having cooked breakfast, cleared the kitchen up, got all the stuff he needs to make said marmalade together and washed all the jars, and tidied everything that was lying around away and walked Kelpie twice. PITA lodger has gone out - yyyyyyeeeeeeeeesssssssssssss!Better is good enough.0 -
Quiche has been made ready for tonight's dins; and Mr LW has washed up. :A
Dog food pouches have been selected for the girls' dins - they can have turkey tonight. They pretty much do their own washing up - the bowls are so well polished I can't tell they've been used. :rotfl:
Mr LW has been reminded to go through the tv listings and tell me if he wants anything recorded this week; if he doesn't do it, he can't blame me when nothing gets recorded - I'm fed up with going through the listings myself and trying to second-guess what he'll want to see.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Not got a lot done this weekend but did get the ovens cleaned the job i have been putting off all week. Just striped the bed as realised other half stars night shift tonight so hard to do it this week as he is in bed all day. Hoping for another good week with cleaning diet and payed work I feel so much less stressed when I am on top of things.0
