Pleased you’ve had a productive Saturday and met your stepdad - are you planning a more restful Sunday - don’t burn yourself out...
Thanks Milann.
Well I'm actually planning on emptying both the cupboards under the stairs and organising them, as I'm sure stuff is lurking in there that should be in the shed. Also I'd quite like to tidy the living room, weed the front garden and iron my volunteering trousers.
But I will shedule some rest in there as well :rotfl:.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I don't think charity shops want things like that. I Offered some of ours to a couple of charity shops once but they refused them:(. We had a big box full of tangled up cables and such like. No idea what most of them were from or why we hung onto them for so long:o. At least they hadn't been stored in the house so I expect it was 'out of sight out of mind':rotfl:. Our local tip is a Recycling Centre like yours but when DH goes he often comes home saying the section/receptacle for certain things isn't there any more and the operatives tell him to just throw them in the landfill skip:eek:. DH was quite upset last week as he said the 'landfill' skip was full of all sorts of usable stuff.
I never like strangers coming to our house either but I always make sure DH is here when they've arranged to come. I also make sure we keep the items that they're collectimg out of the house somewhere such as garage or shed, or on the driveway if the weather is nice. We never invite strangers into the house. It's a sad state of affairs that we have to be so vigilant and almost mistrustful of people nowadays isn't it?
I don't understand why we hang on to cables either, or why DH does anyway. He had three large plastic boxes full of cables and it's down to one box now :T. He had three printer cables and we've had a wireless printer for years :rotfl:.
I was a bit annoyed too yesterday as we separated the plastic from the metal and card, so that it could all be recycled, but were then told to put the plastic items in with household waste . Maybe the plastics container was being emptied, but still it does make you wonder why you bother .Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Congrats hairy on the job, amazing news. When a previous job, as well as in my private life nowadays, I always told/tell people to take the job even if its not quite what they want or not quite enough hours or even fully volunteering as "you never know what it will lead to". I'm so pleased in your case that it has led to permanent work so soon after starting, fingers xd more hours will follow at some point even if just a bit overtime some weeks before becoming more stable.
Brilliant news.
Daisy xx
Thank you Daisy. Yes I always think it's worth taking any opportunity that comes along, as volunteer or temporary can lead to permanent eventually. Although you do have to be patient sometimes as it can take a while, I was volunteering for a whole year before I got the MTA job. But I'm definitely going to hang in there as I'm sure something will come up eventually

I've emptied the larger of the two cupboards under the stairs, and despite putting a load of stuff in the shed after we built it, I can't believe how much stuff was in there .
There was a decorating ladder, the ironing board and iron, a small fold up wooden table, a garden parasol, four fold up fabric garden chairs, various mops and brooms, the garden fork and loppers which are too tall for the shed, our shoe cleaning kit, a box with hats and gloves in, a waterproof cover I've been looking for since the autumn, assorted mops and broom, a Victorian iron and stand, some old fashioned brass weights, various decorating bits that can go in the shed, and lots and lots of diy tools and paraphernalia.
I can't believe it all fitted in there and our hall is now full of stuff  I think it's going to take us the rest of the day to organise that lot and put it back, so I don't think the front garden is going to get weeded today :rotfl:. I've given it a good sweep out and the dust was unbelievable .
We want to get it all organised into clear boxes before we put it back in the cupboard so that it's easier to find things in the future.

I love a good clear out:j but know that it always looks much worse before it looks better:eek:. It never ceases to amaze me, as it has you, how much was actually crammed into a relatively small storage space once everything is pulled out and spread out on the floor of the adjacent room. Then time has a nasty habit of passing too quickly or something really crucial crops up that means it can't be finished at one go:(. So back a lot of it has to go without being sorted or culled:rotfl:. I hope you get all yours finished at one go, HH. The weeding can wait;)0 -
We're definitely going to finish the job Noella
. Apart from this all I'm going to do is clean out the furry moron and iron my trousers.
DH is helping (which helps as most of it is his). He's sorting out his tool box at the moment which he's decided should only contain tools, so all the screws, nails, sandpaper, etc, are going into sealed plastic boxes in the cupboard. We've found three plastic boxes to go on the shelf for smaller, loose items, and then larger items will go on the floor until we can get get some bigger boxes for them to go in. The idea is to just pull out a box to look for the item you need
.
It's going to be much easier to get out the brooms, mop and bucket, etc, without fighting through a load of clutter :T. Maybe the floors will get mopped more often now :rotfl:.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally
