  • Shouldn't be any deductions, but you may need to split your tax code. Talk to your accountant! You will probably get emergency taxed at 20% but you should get it back quickly, especially at this end of the tax year.

Also, if it's term time only it may be equated pay - 39 weeks pay plus x weeks holiday pay, divided by 12 months to give a monthly salary. Worth considering the pension too, especially if it is a local government defined benefit pension scheme. Some of them have a 50/50 option were you get a reduced return for a lower contribution, but those kind of schemes are rarely available outside of the public sector. I look after a few outsourced people in those schemes, they pay 5%, we pay over 30%!

    Thanks Redo :).

Yes I definitely need to speak to our accountants about the tax and NI situation.

I wonder if I will get £200 a month then, as I won't get paid for holidays. Maybe it will be less than that. If I knew what my hourly pay was I'd have more idea. Oh well I'll find out eventually when I get my first payslip. Anyway whatever I get it will be more than I'm getting now :).

Would it be worth me contributing to the pension? I'm going to be 55 next month  :( so I would only have twelve years to make payments. I'll see what they say about the type of pension it is when I start work.

Great news you can do still your course and volunteering, then your job. £200 is better than nothing at all. I think 2019 is going to be a good year for you .

Yes it was important that I could still do the course. It may be less than £200 as I don't get holiday pay, but even if it's only £150 a month it will still be more than I'm getting now :).

I know it's not a huge amount of money but I'd pretty much convinced myself I was unemployable because I've been out of the work place for twenty five years (self employment doesn't count :o) and I'm going to be 55 next month.

So I'm really pleased to be offered a job :). Also it could lead onto other things, plus I enjoyed the trial as working with children is always fun, plus the money will be really useful :).

So it's good on so many levels :T.
