  • Our accountants have just emailed and confirmed that we will get a tax rebate as we paid emergency tax on the pension :T. It's a bigger tax rebate than expected so DH and I are very happy bunnies :T  :T  :T  :T  :T  :T. Or at least we will be when we get it :D.

Does anyone have any experience of receiving tax rebates? When we googled it it appears to take between six to eight weeks  which sounds an awfully long time.

That is wonderful news lovely, I'm so happy for you :T:beer::j

When DH gets a rebate from them, it's not usually that long (or it is and I've not paid much attention :rotfl:) hope it comes through very quickly for you.

    Enjoy your course xx

Fab news on tax rebate . I'm not sure how to go about getting one, they wouldn't make it simple as click a button to get it back, it's got to ge complicated? Ive tried to find out before as Mr daisy overpaid in 16/17 only 60quidish so as it wasn't too much and I couldnt see how to reclaim it, i thought I'd leave it and it would be prepaying towards 17/18. Oh no that would be too simple . He ended up with a credit on 16/17 and a demand on 17/18. I've left it too long to query it now as I suspect they will be busy this month with lots if people scrabbling to get accounts in, so although I popped in every so often to see if the two figures cancelled each other out, I've now given in and paid his 17/18 so we dont get fined. I will have to write to them once I'm back from our holiday. I was really hoping one time to see a lovely button 'click here to request payment' grrrr:mad: HMRflippingC!!! Hh, let me know if you find out how to go about it.

Actually that's made me think - I'm away 1st Feb to 15th for our first holiday in 16 years :dance::dance: (other than a couple of days away twice within scotland). Can everyone keep posts to a minimum so I have half a chance of catching up please :rotfl: sometimes theres pages of good chat to catch up on in a couple of days on this thread :T

I have to confess I've regretted that decision so many times since:o. I might not have actually landed the job anyway but I often think about 'what might have been'. Despite everything and after all these years I think we both need each other. I'm optimistic enough (or more likely naive enough) to think we can soldier on.

CBC if it was me I'd tell myself good chance I wouldn't have got the job, not because I think I wouldn't, just because it would put it out my mind so I didn't have a what if moment every so often.

That last bit is lovely to read, that you need each other, lets go with optimistic :), as long as theres more good than bad then horse on me dear. Over time the electrics will go socket by socket and you will end up getting the work done that needs done. (I'd forgotten you were digging yourself out of debt so apologies.) Slowly slowly catchee monkee (if I am still allowed to say that these days??? Nobodies ever quite sure of old phrases these days I find) no point pushing it when it will happen naturally and glad your shedding was so successful. Heres to continued good health of you both. :T

Impresses 'em? I'd have thought it would scare a fair few away, thinking they're going to be paying VAT where in fact they're not! :D

You can register for vat voluntarily even if you are under the threshold. It means we can claim back vat on our own business expenses, but does mean our customers have to pay vat on what we charge them and involves a certain amount of admin which I always end up doing .

Thanks Daisy :). I have no idea how to reclaim it I'm afraid. Our accountants do it for us luckily. Have a lovely break and but I can't promise you won't have some reading to do when you get back :rotfl:.

DH asked our accountants how long it's likely to take to get the tax refund and they said normally about a week :j :T :j :T :j . They must be magicians if they can get money out of the tax office that quickly :rotfl:. We'll see.

When the tax money comes we can pay all the vat we owe, pay the accountants and then see what's left. There should be enough left to catch up on our household bills. This will put us in a much better position going forward and should buy some time for DH to do some selling :T.

DH has also printed out some lovely photos of my mum that I wanted to put in frames (it's only taken him six months!) and I'm delighted with them as they remind me of happy times we had together. I bought some good frames to put them in after she died and now finally I can look at the photos of her from where I sit and remember her :).
