Another one here cheering you on for the PPI! :T
to the slippers.
Hope a payment comes through ASAP — I may have forgotten/missed this if it’s been mentioned before, apologies if so, but is it possible for DH to request deposits or payment upfront for his work so that you aren’t left in this situation again?0 -
I'm so glad the Pilates went well. Sounds as if it was just what you needed:j. I bet you're tucked up now enjoying a very well-deserved sleep:). My neuralgia is giving me sleepless nights and after lying awake for a restless couple of hours knowing sleep would never come:( I got up about 2 o'clock and have been catching up on MSE. The shed man is supposed to be coming at 8.30 (he rescheduled us to a week earlier than we expected:j) but it's teeming with rain, has been all night, and I'm not sure what he'll be doing with the junk from the shed. They planned to just pile it up on the grass and cover it with tarpaulins as it would probably be for just one night. With the grass being so wet after this rain I'm not sure what they'll do. We're on clay soil and that part of the garden gets waterlogged after heavy rain:(. Not my problem though, I should just let them get on and have the worry of it. This pesky shed business has been dominating my life:eek: and I'll be relieved when it's all over:j
I'm thrilled to bits that you're starting your PPI compensation claims:j. I'm really surprised though that you and DH have left it so late to do it what with all the publicity about if for about the last 10 years. Any refunds would have been a financial lifeline when you were unable to afford even to have the heating on and had so much worry about paying the necessary bills. When I was really desperate for money:o I made sure I tried everything to get back every penny that was legitimately due to me as soon as I could. When the PPI mis-selling 'scandal' started dominating the media I knew I had to at least have a try.
On the plus side though is the fact that you no longer have debts:j. Whatever you're awarded will be yours to do what you want with:beer:. I had a refund from a bank where I had debts and instead of sending the PPI money to me they deducted it from the outstanding debt balance:(. Same thing really I suppose, but some ready cash would have been much more useful to me at that point;). I've already cleared my Lloyds debt with a good F&F and waited to submit my PPI claim to them until after all that was done and dusted. It's still in the pipeline but I'm hopeful it will be accepted. It's likely to be a very small amount but every little helps as Mr T was always reminding us;). It's my last possible claim though. I hardly ever had PPI so there was never much to get back:(. Next, I'm going to attempt to recoup some unfair charges from Santander;). I'll probably be wasting my time with that one though. I tried before but went about it all wrong and got nowhere. I think I may have worked out a different approach now after reading advice all over the internet so am tempted to have another try. The worst that can happen is that they'll say no' again. We shouldn't ever let these financial institutions get away with ripping us off:beer:.0 -

We do ask for half the money upfront on larger jobs, but smaller jobs it's not always worth it or not appropriate depending upon the nature of the work. We don't have much work on at the moment which is the main problem.

Sorry you didn't get much sleep. I hope the shed emptying goes well.
We didn't want to claim PPI before we got the pension money and paid off the debts as we knew they would put the money towards the debts. We knew we had the pension money coming but had to wait for DH to turn 55.
We intended to claim PPI straight after paying off the debts, but life got in the way and then my mum died which knocked me for six. It's only the impending deadline coming up really which has jolted me into doing it.
I think I was feeling a bit low and felt that we wouldn't get any money back anyway. It's easy to feel hopeless and powerless to change your situation. I think I thought that if we couldn't prove we'd had it then the CC companies would lie and say we hadn't had it. I have trust issues with financial institutions.
It's only since finding those statements that proved we had PPI with at least one CC that is making me believe we might actually get some money back for this.:T.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Today I want to do PPI, but first I need to help DH sort out some stuff for our accountants or we're going to miss the end of January deadline
.
They'll probably charge us for working overtime as it is. DH has been procrastinating due to stress and I haven't been on it like I would have been in the past due to feeling so upset at the moment.
But I feel genuinely scard about missing the deadline, so I'm going to help DH with that first, then we need to sort out some paperwork for DS2's accounts, as his condition means he genuinely can't cope with stuff like that.
Then I'll get onto the PPI which is what I really want to do this morning.
This afternoon DS1 and I are going out for coffee. It'll only cost me a fiver for my bus fare and a coffee as I won't buy anything. But I want to get DS1 out of the house and spend some quality time with him to help his mental health.
I hope everyone has a good Tuesday.

I totally empathise with your situation, HH, and I've just realised that when I said I was surprised you hadn't reclaimed sooner that you might think I was being judgemental. I didn't intend it that way at all and if I upset you in any way please forgive me:kisses3:.
You took exactly the right approach at the time with any PPI awarded likely to go towards lowering your debt balance. As I mentioned, that happened to me with one of mine. Not a happy situation:(
I know what you mean about having trust issues with financial institutions, I'm exactly the same although my faith has been restored a lot by Lloyds who refunded several sets of charges and fees without me even having to ask for it:j. Santander though are a different kettle of fish altogether:mad:. They were brilliant with the PPI but not with the bank account I had with them:(. I'm not giving up though;)
I can understand that you're feeling low as life has dealt you some truly cruel blows recently. I genuinely admire the way you're tackling the PPI situation now and the way you're not letting the bad things that have happened in your world get you down.0 -

I hope you have a lovely time with DS1. It sounds like a really nice afternoon for both of you:coffee:
You spend so much time helping everyone else and deserve something nice to happen to you. Good karma and all that:j0 -
The shed man arrived at 8 and had already told us he was bringing his Dad to help with the clearing. I expected an old gent about my and OH's age:eek: but he's only 60, newly retired and as fit and energetic as anything:j. I think OH is glad now that he decided to pay the extra and have someone else do it. If nothing else they'll be a heck of a lot faster than I would have been:rotfl:. All I need to do is keep them supplied with hot drinks:)0
