Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I had a nice trip out with DS1. I paid our bus fares and for my coffee. He paid for his coffee. So a cost of £7.75 to me. But it's nice to spend some time with him and get him out of the house.
But I borrowed another £100 from DS1's savings to pay a bill that they've been chasing us for. We owe him £300 now
but he says he doesn't mind and that is three important bills paid.
Anyway if this PPI stuff works out we'll be able to pay him back more quickly. Once I've done the PPI claims I'm going to try flogging some stuff on ebay to make money.
I'm 10p away from being able to cash out £30 on One Poll so we'll be able to throw that at a bill when it comes. I've got £6 I can claim from PA once it's all approved so that will help too.
Tomorrow I can get £40 keep from DS1 and that will pay most of our food bill for the week. Every little helps.

Cumbria_lass wrote: »Yes I claimed that on Resolver also. If you get time I would read on the MSE main site , the PPI information under the heading claim 1000's top of the home page. It's really easy to read and helped me with my claims . It was where I got the Resolver website from.
Good to hear the accountants papers are done .
Thanks Cumbria that's really helpful.
I'm going to look for more paperwork this week, because it's bolstering my confidence and reminding me of the debts we've had. I've still got a filing cabinet to go though.
Then on Monday actually fill in all the forms, etc, to claim it all back. Exciting stuff :j.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

So to summarise these are all the things we could potentially claim on for PPI:
- Eight credit cards
- One mortgage
- Two Debenh@ms store cards
- One N3xt Directory account
- One J@camo account
- One car loan
- Two packaged bank accounts
I wonder if I've missed anything? I'm pretty sure we didn't pay PPI to Jacamo, but who knows with the others? Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Wow that's a great list (when it comes go claimng back I mean not when you were trying to pay it off), hope some come up trumps (and within the 2 week window would be fantastic)
While not wishing to sound mean, if you do get any payouts if it was me I would use the money to 'get ahead' and leave the family loan to last. I'm not saying that isn't important but its potentially more important to get bills up to date that can be impacting on a) stress and b) better deals saving you money in the long run ie 12 months car tax is cheaper than two 6months road tax. As you say ds is benefitting from living at home and it would appear is in no great need of the money right now this minute.
All your pots stocked up for the next year will even out your monthly money, allow you go start saving each month for the next 12 months of known expenses and a short term emergency fund for stuff like oven breaking/boiler breaking and mean less likelihood of you needing to borrow off him again thereby relieving stress on both you and oh. You are then in a position to start funding a longer term emergency fund/savings ie new windows, house maintenance, roof repairs, replacing car etc etc
Exciting times, get those claims in!!! Fingers xd

I can confirm Resolver can help with packaged bank accounts — I used it and got £80-odd back from NatWest a couple of years ago
Well done on your progress, it sounds excellent :T0 -

We owe some VAT money and the accountants will give us a bill to pay, so we'll clear those first and then see if there's anything left. There's a possibility we may get a tax rebate from tax paid on the pension money so I'm keeping my fingers crossed there.
I understand what you're saying Daisy about paying bask DS1. But I feel very guilty borrowing from my son.

Wow, that is a lot of potential PPI. Imagine if all of that comes in? That would be a great help for you. xSeptember 2017 Debt = £25330
Starting afresh.
You can do anything if you put your mind to it. x0 -

Lloyds refunded some bank charges without my having to ask as they were reviewing their procedures for how they had treated people in financial difficulties. They acknowledged that they hadn't treated people fairly! I couldn't believe it especially as I had no luck getting anything back from Santander when I wrote to them about it last year. I see you had success with your Santander charges so if you see this please could I ask if it was a straightforward process? I want to try again with them. Thanks x
Who Dares Wins! I agree with that:beer:0 -

Have you ever had packaged bank account ie. where you pay a monthly fee might be worth checking out, this is where I got my payout from last year took less than 2 weeks from start to finish
Good luck

Well done on the packaged bank account refund:T.
I've had a couple of those over the years but have never tried to reclaim anything for them as I opted to have them without any coercion and can't see any grounds why they should repay me anything:o. Can you offer any advice please about reasons that they accept?0
