I really hope your luck changes in 2019 (& at the begininning of the year!). You come across as a lovely, compassionate person who does not deserve to be struggling.
Did you hear back from the jobs you applied for?
Wishing you a very happy and peaceful 2019.

Thank you BalanceBy50 I hope so too. Happy new year to you.
I haven't heard back from the jobs yet unfortunately, so I'll look out for new ones to apply for. At least I can start my course soon which will give me another relevant thing to add to my cv.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

This morning DH and I are doing our weekly food shop. I have a budget of £70. I'd like it to be less, but with DS3 home I think £70 is realistic, but you never know.
After that I want to make sure my clothes are ready for volunteering tomorrow, put some laundry on to wash, clean mud off my ankle boots and trainers, and take up my new jeans so that I can actually wear them.
Have a good Wednesday everyone.

Sounds like you have a busy day planned, but when are your days anything but busy?. I hope you get your shopping under budget but it must be worth it spending a bit extra having your son at home and eating well. How much longer does he have at home?
I was surprised when you said your school volunteering starts tomorrow. Doesn't seem long since the holidays started, although I suspect plenty of parents of school age children think they've been quite long enough;)0 -

Thanks Carboot. The school has actually been on holiday for two weeks now, but it has gone quite quickly. As school starts on a Thursday I'll be there on the first day back.

Have a lovely day HH

Well my food shop came in under budget at £67.72 :T. That included washing up liquid, bin liners, face wipes and bunny food.
I did sucumb to some luxury gift wrap which I'd been eying up since before Christmas but was not willing to pay £3 a roll for . Today I saw it reduced to 75p a roll, so I sucumbed to five rolls (it was lovely). I also got a pack of Christmas serviettes for 75p which was half price. But these bargains were all included in the £67.72.
So next Christmas we'll only need to buy food and presents, as I have copious amounts of gift wrap, Xmas cards, crackers and serviettes, all at half price or less :money:.
I also intend to pick up presents in sales throughout the year as stocking fillers for the DC. I have already made a start with DS1's Christmas socks in the Fatf@c sale :money:. I need to get a plastic storage box specifically for keeping these bargains in. This should make Christmas a lot cheaper overall. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Bit late but happy new year HH. Glad you managed to get through the festive season, it must have been hard for you.
I'm sure you'll find a job you enjoy this year, fingers crossed for the course helping with this.
I like to try & buy Christmas presents throughout the year along with birthday presents, using survey vouchers/money if I can too as it feels less like "real" money. I have a present box to keep them in, it's handy as then I keep everything together. I've also started keeping a list of what's in the box on my diary & updating it regularly so that I don't buy too much/too many of the same thing.
Well done on getting your shopping in under budget including the bargains. :TSuccess is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,546, Car loan CC 0% BT £5200. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.0 -

All brilliant bargains, and a lovely secret stash warms the heart for next year's Xmas.
When we last moved house, I'd bought all my Xmas wrapping paper in Woolworth's end of June sale at ridiculous prices. We moved in July, and I never saw the paper again - 6 rolls of a disappearance mystery !!! Be warned !0 -
Great shopping HH,
It's nice to see you excited about going back to work at the schoolIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them
